I wake up alone.

"Dane?" I whisper, but my bed is cold. I sigh. Why did he leave? I get up, but almost fall over his shoes. So he is still he here...

I hear a chuckle from behind my book shelf and run to it. He's sitting on the ground, reading the book. He looks up and smiles at me. "Alex is a dumb ass," he chuckles and reaches for me.

Smiling, I sit down and he pulls me to his chest, so I'm sitting between his legs. He's reading out loud again for me, but I'm not really listening. I'm watching his lips move with every word he says. I wonder what would happen if I kiss those. Would they be as soft as every book says?

I snuggle into his chest. It's my happy place, safe and warm. I close my eyes and drift away to a place where only we exist, just us.

"Willow? Did you fall asleep? It's a crucial moment for the story," he whispers and I open my eyes. He smiles, looking in my eyes. "I would have waited if you fell asleep," he tells me and I giggle. "I've read it a thousand times, I think I know what's happening."

He shrugs. "I just like to watch your face when it's a good moment. I don't know if this gonna end good, though," he frowns, looking at the book. "Go on then, I'm listening," I say and he nods.

But before he can start, a knock on the door startles us. I jump up and start panicking. "Who's there?" I shout and hear a giggle from behind the door. "It's Mom. Let me in."

"Don't worry about hiding Dane," she adds and my eyes widen. I look at him and he's frozen. "Shit," he mumbles. I take his hand in mine and look in his eyes. "We're not even dating or together or whatever, so she can't complain. Let's explain it."

He nods, but looks at the wall. Did I say something wrong?

"Fine. Come in," I grumble and giggling, she does. She leans against the door frame and switches her gaze between me and Dane. I roll my eyes. "No, Mom. This is not what you think it is. He came early to practice some dance moves."

She raises an eyebrow and scoffs. "Sure. Breakfast in ten minutes, and you're coming too, Dane," she says and leaves. When I turn, Dane's eyes are as wide as saucers. "Shit, shit ,shit," he groans and his hands go through his hair.

In two quick paces he's almost in my face. "Willow, if I'm going down there, both your Dad and Jack are gonna kill me. Jack knows I wasn't here for him, so he'll think we're secretly dating or stuff. Fuck," he mutters.

I comfort him by wrapping my arms around his waist. "Listen. If you go back outside through my window, and then back inside through the front door. You ring the bell and Jack thinks you're just early. This way you make my Momhappy and no one's gonna kill you."

He nods and taps my nose. "You're smart. See you in a minute," he winks and I roll my eyes. He disappears through the window and I hop downstairs. Mom frowns. "Did he really have the guts to leave?" she gasps and I shake my head.

Just then, the doorbell rings and I smirk. She rolls her eyes as Dane comes in and I giggle. Jack looks confused. "Why are you laughing, Willow? Did that guy from your book make a good joke?" he chuckles and I slump a little.

Dane glares at him. "Why don't you shut your mouth?" he snaps and Jack widens his eyes. "Woah, chill. It's a joke, right Willow?" He looks at me and I slightly nod. I'm sure it was, but that doesn't change the fact it made me feel bad.

I also don't like the fact Dane is ruining their friendship to protect me. I send him a text.

Me: Its ok. Leave it. Stay friends with him

He pulls out his phone and reads my text, then nods towards me. He sighs. "Sorry, man. I just have this really bad mood for the whole week," he sighs, but I know he's lying. He smiled the whole week, you can't be in a bad mood then.

Jack does believe him and nods. "No problemo. Let's have breakfast. You joining?" Dane nods and we sit down. The only free chair is next to me, and Dane smiles a little at me when he sits down. 'Act like before. Hate' he mouths and I nod.

I wrinkle my nose and look away from him. Jack chuckles and I roll my eyes. "Can't we switch? It stinks here," I snap and he shakes his head. "Naah. I enjoy this," he chuckles and starts eating. I roll my eyes again.

Dad and Mom exchange a look. I narrow my eyes at them, like I would have done before Dane and I became... friends. Are we friends now?

Jack goes off to the toilet and Dad chuckles. "Willow, you don't have to pretend anymore. Everyone in this room knows you like Dane." Dane spits out his coffee and starts coughing. I'm just staring in shock at my Dad. He can't just throw me like this!

I narrow my eyes at him. "You really believe I like him? Dad, I don't think the Nobel prize was adressed right," I sigh. He growls at me. "No? I did excellent detective work. You see-" Mom punches him in his side and he cringes.

"Okay, your Mom and I-" Another punch. He sighs. "Fine. Your Mom did excellent detective work. Last night," he winks and gestures to Dane. I hesitate in my movements. Did they come in last night?

Mom giggles when she sees my face and points to Dane, who's choking on his bread. I smack his back and he nods to me. "Thanks."

"You were smiling last night. Both of you," Mom giggles and now I am the one who's choking. Now Dane smacks my back and I nod at him. Dad laughs at us. "I told you, I'm always right about this stuff."

I sigh. "We're not a couple. We're just friends, and that's not changing! So stop this awkward conversation and talk about something true," I snap. I know my words are true, and it hurts me a little.

"Eh, I'm gonna check on Jack," Dane mumbles, looking at the ground and leaving. Good job, Mom and Dad. Now you let him leave. Dad cocks an eyebrow. Then, he shrugs. "You both want it."

I roll my eyes and get up. "Dad!" I groan and walk away.

I wish.
