At some point during the day, Jak left, placing a kiss on my cheek and telling me he would do his best to convince Kane. I stayed on the bathroom floor, eyes shut for another couple of hours, not having the strength to get up, until Kane finally came back.
I heard him enter the apartment before opening the bedroom door and a moment later, he entered the bathroom. He stayed silent, moving around for a moment before I forced myself to peel my eyes open to see him crouching in front of me, a glass of water in his hand. "Here," he said.
I took it with a shaky hand before he pulled out a bottle of pills. "You need to take these every night," he said, placing them beside the sink. "They should help with the sickness."
"Thank you," I muttered sincerely. He simply nodded in response while I sipped at the water, hoping I wouldn't be throwing it back up in a few minutes. "How's my sister?" I asked, holding my breath while I waited for his answer, unsure if I wanted to hear it.
"Alive," he answered in a grunt. "I can see the family resemblance, she's just as much of a pain in the ass as you."
I grinned, knowing she was just as stubborn as I was and wouldn't make Kane's life any easier. "We both share the same hatred of men," I told him. He didn't respond for a while and I glanced up to see his jaw set and his eyes fixated on the floor in front of him. "Did Jak speak to you?"
A scowl crossed his face as he turned back to me. "He did," he answered, raising an eyebrow at me. "I haven't changed my mind and don't you dare try to use my brother against me again."
I shook my head. "I wasn't trying to use him against you," I said, managing to roll my eyes at him, "I just thought maybe he could talk some sense into you."
"Sense?" He scoffed, furrowing his brows.
"Yes," I muttered, "I'm not trying to cause any trouble. I just want to see my sister. I've never been away from her, ever. Surely you can understand, you're obviously close with your brother."
His glare only intensified and I sighed. "Fine," I said with a huff before closing my eyes.
I stayed there for a while, assuming that he had left until suddenly, he spoke. "You get half an hour and not a minute longer," he barked. "And I'm not leaving you alone with her for a moment."
My eyes flew open and I looked up at him, expecting him to tell me he was joking. "Really?" I asked and he nodded. "Thank you."
I finished the glass of water, about to try and stand when he lowered to a crouch in front of me and grasped my chin. "Just so that you know-," he started, squeezing tightly until I winced. I tried to keep my eyes level to his but his gaze was so intense it took everything inside of me not to look away. "-right now, your life is tied to my child and that means you're protected."
I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat as he moved his face closer. "The second that this baby is out of you, you become disposable. So if you want to live to meet your child, you do exactly as your told. Understand?" He growled.
His words settled in my stomach and I knew he was dead serious. "I understand," I told him. There was no way I was leaving my baby to be raised by him. Boy or girl, I wanted to be around to teach them morals and values that Kane wouldn't care about and if that meant submitting to his rules, that's what I would do.
"Good," he muttered, dropping my chin and raising to his full height. He reached his arm down for me to take his hand and I did, allowing him to help me up despite the burning sensation of his skin touching mine.
I stayed silent as he led me out of the apartment, unwilling to say anything that might get me thrown back in. Butterflies filled my stomach as I thought about seeing my sister again. It had been so long. Would she be angry at me? Ashamed that I had submitted to these men and was now carrying one of their babies.
Kane slowed down in front of one of the cells and I was pulled from my thoughts when I saw her hunched in the far corner, eyes glued to the ground. "Back already?" She hissed.
Kane unlocked the cell and her head shot up to watch him as he shoved me in. "Kath?" She whispered, scrambling to her feet and shooting forward.
Tears filled my eyes as I threw my arms around her, breathing in the scent that had comforted me since I was a child. "Rose," I sobbed, burying my head on her shoulder and soaking it in my tears.
"Are you okay?" She asked, pulling back to take my face in her hands, assessing me through watery eyes.
I nodded, pulling her back into my arms. "I'm fine," I told her, "I'm okay."
"I missed you so much," she whispered, her face buried in my hair. "I was so so worried about you."
I hiccuped. "I missed you too," I said, not realising quite how much I'd missed her until now. "I missed you so much."
"Has he hurt you?" She suddenly snapped, pulling away to glare at Kane through the bars of the cell, her eyes sharp and piercing. "I'll kill him."
I bit my lip at the look on Kane's face and shook my head. "How weak do you think I am?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow
She smirked at me before turning back to Kane. "We're going to be okay," she said, taking my hand and squeezing it while her eyes stayed on him. "I'll get us out of here, I promise."
Kane flitted his gaze to me, raising an eyebrow while I frowned. As much as I wanted to,
I couldn't believe the comforting words that left my sisters mouth. I knew better by now. This was the rest of my life and if I wanted my child to know my face, I needed to start getting used to it.
