JJ and I had been taking turns getting up in the middle of the night to tend to our daughter Emma. Once again she wakes up screaming.

"I got it" JJ sits up. I grab his hand and shake my head "no it's my turn get some sleep" I attempt to pull him back into bed. He kisses the top of my head "it's ok my love"

I roll over and fall back asleep as he goes off into her room. The blonde picks up our infant who's still wailing. "sh sh shhhh you're alright I've got ya Em" he coos, wiping her tears away.

Eventually she stops screaming and falls back asleep in his arms. When he goes to set her down the baby grabs onto his finger with a whimper, not wanting to let go.

With a sigh he picks her back up, sitting in the chair. After awhile JJs eyes begin to get heavy and he falls asleep with her laying on his chest.

Eventually I realized that JJ never came back to bed. I go into Emma's room to find them asleep together on the chair. I smile softly and lay a blanket over my two loves. If only it would stay like this forever.

Present

"bye!" Emma waves as her friend leaves. They just celebrated her 13th party with a sleepover. "did you have fun?" JJ asks while playfully punching her arms as a joke. She spins around and pushes him off.

"yeah" she says, laying on the couch and pulling out her phone with some annoyance in her tone. JJ sighs and walks into the bedroom while tugging at his hair. I hug my husband from behind and kiss his shoulder.

JJ was pretty sensitive towards things and I knew he'd been overthinking Emma's love towards him. Plus having his childhood didn't help. It was no secret she loved him but her very normal teen attitude threw him off.

"she's just a teen Jay, don't let it get to you"

"I- just what did I do wrong? Why is she such an ass with me? I mean am I to harsh with her? Is she afraid of me like I was to Luke I-"

I cut his rambling off with a kiss. "Jay, you're doing great. She's not afraid of you and you've done nothing wrong" I reassure him.

"she's just all grown up... I miss my baby girl" he whispers as I pull him into a hug. "I know bubba, I do too. But don't doubt her love for you, mkay?"

The blonde nods his head. Eventually going to the living room to find Emma passed out on the couch. It was only 3 so he assumed she was wiped out from the sleepover she'd had.

He picks her up and carrie's her to her room. When he goes to set her down she clings to him. He can't help but smile as he lays next to her and she cuddles into him.

JJ pushes her hair out of her faces and lays there while watching her sleep peacefully. "I love you Em" he whispers. That's when he noticed she was still a little awake as she whispers "I love you too dad" back.

At some point they feel asleep because I found them asleep next to each other. I tuck them in just like how I used to. Some things never change...
