Immediately after the race was paused, Jake and Kira followed the ambulance to The Heart Hospital in Austin where Diane was kept for a few days. However, the doctors suggested that Diane should be moved to a permanent hospital room, considering the fact that her injuries had put her in critical condition.
Kira sighed as she held onto her mother's hand, and rubbed it gently. The past few days had been weighing on her quite heavily. And by the looks of things, the doctors had been saying that things weren't looking too good.
"Hi momma, so dad went out to buy lunch and I guess what I'm trying to say is, is that I miss you." Kira said finally after looking at the floor in silence for sometime. One of the doctor's suggested talking to her mom like normal, because it might help. As she turned to face her mother she noticed the wide bandage on her mother's head as well as the bruises and cuts on her chest and sides from where the car had impacted her.
Kira refused to believe that the woman lying in the hospital bed was her mother. Sure that woman had her face and her body but that was not Diane. Diane was someone who could light up a room with just one smile, Diane was determined, Diane was graceful, Diane was everything that Kira hoped to be one day, and now Diane was just a ghost of a woman, a ghost of a woman, Kira refused to believe she knew. She didn't know this person, this person was a stranger, an evil twin to the angel that her mother had been, when she was awake.
Kira needed her to wake up because she didn't know what she would do if Diane didn't.
"Come back to me, momma. Please... I need you...daddy needs you too... we all do..."

What Kiki didn't realize though was that Jake had been standing outside the hospital room's door and heard his daughter's conversation with his wife. It broke his heart to hear his daughter talk like that and the fact that he couldn't do anything to save the love of his life was weighing on him quite heavily. After wiping away some stray tears that had fallen from his eyes, with the back of his hand, Jake entered the room with a smile on his face and shook a brown bag with the famous McDonalds Logo on the front, in front of his daughter's face.
"I brought you, your favourite!"
Kira gave him a small smile and took the bag from him, placing it on the small beside table beside her mother.
"Daddy... you don't have to be strong for me... its okay..." Kira replied wrapping her arms around her father's neck in an embrace.
"I know... I just never want you or your mother to see me like this..." Jake chuckled lightly, before kissing the top of his daughter's head.
