It was the middle of the night and YN was in the room with Sam and Natasha, the other boys sleeping in the other room. The young woman was tossing and turning in her sleep, muttering under her breath and whimpering lowly.
Her dreams were rampaging behind her eyes, the picture of Sam shooting Riley down over and over again, the same scene on repeat. Finally, with a large inhale of breath, YN shot upward, quickly raising her hand to extinguish the scream she knew would wake everyone up.
Standing up, YN looked over to the corner of the room, where Sam was sleeping on a futon. She clenched her teeth in anger, wanting nothing more than to wake Sam up and scream at him until he understood how hard he was making this, how everyday he was a reminder of the time she didn't get with her brother.
Choking back a sob, YN moved to the door separating the two rooms, peeking through to make sure no one was awake. Looking to where her ruck sack sat on the floor, she tip toed over to grab a hoodie, shucking it over her head and down over her t-shirt.
Opening the door to the balcony, YN slid into a chair, sighing in relief at the cool air drifting over her mostly naked legs. The door behind her opened, the sound making YN's head spin around to face the intruder.
"Oh, it's you." She muttered, squinting her eyes and returning to her previous position. "Kindly leave me alone."
"You know, I get it. The pushing everyone away so they don't see you hurting thing, but honestly, it's getting kind of old and more on my nerves." YN rolled her eyes, cracking her neck.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Give me a few minutes, maybe I can find some energy to give a fuck." Steve clenched his teeth, scrunching his nose. She looked over to where Steve stood, shirtless with a pair of sweats hanging low on hips. YN shook her head, facing outward again as he responded.
"We were fine yesterday, how come you've decided I'm the enemy again?" YN shrugged, not deeming the question worth answering. "Did something happen? Did you have a nightmare?" YN flinched at his last question, unknowingly answering his question anyway. "Ah, so that's it."
"No, that's not it, Steven." YN muttered, stretching her bare legs out to rest against the balcony railing. "Do you think anyone in there has any cigarettes?" Steve shook his head, swallowing down a laugh.
"Bucky would have, but I made him throw them out." YN rolled her eyes again, tapping her foot anxiously. "Didn't realize you smoked."
"I don't really... Only when I'm stressed or anxious." Steve cocked his head, a small smile playing on his lips. "Oh, don't act like you didn't already notice I'm a nervous wreck."
"Look, there's an old cigarette dispenser downstairs, if I pay for a pack, you tell me about your nightmare." YN narrowed her eyes, back to tapping her foot against the metal railing.
After a few moments, she conceded, lifting her body and following Steve through the room. "Ah? You gunna put a shirt on?"
Steve shrugged, turning to face YN who was silently staring at the taller man's chest. "Why? You seem to like the view?" YN's eyes snapped to his, cheeks filling with color.
"What? You? Uh... ew." She finally laughed, only just catching Steve's raised eyebrow and small smile. "Let's go, Rogers. You promised me some nicotine."
Getting to the cigarette machine, YN let out a loud laugh, making Steve glare her back to silence. "YN, it's three in the morning, lower your voice."
YN stifled another laugh, gritting her teeth. "Yes, father."
"What are you laughing at, anyway?" Steve asked, looking over the options before letting out a sigh.
