Jax's POV5:03 pm
I stirred the tomato soup in the big pot and lowered the fire.
I turned around and watched Bella from my kitchen. The apartment was set up where the living room was right across from the kitchen. I had a horizontal hallway that lead to the back bedrooms and an island counter separating the two rooms.
She was currently laying out the couch, her tail wagging on the beat to the jazz music that playing from my Alexa on my bookshelf.
The real reason I had to be home was because of her. I had to pick her up from doggie daycare and take her home.
Ozzie guessed that I had a child and he wasn't completely wrong.
She was basically my baby. The girl was spoiled rotten and already knew what face to make to manipulate me into doing what she wanted.
I didn't like leaving her alone for too long because I didn't want her to feel like I was abandoning her or something.
Turning away from the stove, I peered down at the island. I had a bunch of dishes placed out in different pots.
My mom was feeling bad about the relationship strain between my Papá and me, so she seemed to be overcompensating in food. Lots of food.
I could barely finish it all so I started bringing some to the homeless shelter downtown.
There was a tomato salad with homemade pita chips. A huge bowl of pasta all amatriciana, which was basically spicy penne. Then she sent potato gnocchi with chicken and some tiramisù for dessert. There was also some spaghetti if anyone wasn't a fan of penne.
I ate a lot because I was exercising for so many hours a day, but this was too much.
I made a small tomato soup for more options. I wasn't really sure what everyone liked.
I had to text everyone and ask for allergies to be sure and also to see if I had to leave Bella with my neighbor upstairs.
No one had any major food or animal allergies except Ozzie, who said he was allergic to major commitment.
That guy was something else.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't kind of nervous.
I'd never really had anybody over. I've had the place for 5 years but never felt the need to invite anyone over.
But when Ozzie mentioned that I always skipped out on outings with the group, I realized how right he was. Aside from the time I went to Gen's cousin's bookstore, I hadn't really been out with them.
I told myself that I wanted to make an effort to get to know everyone better and I meant that.
Plus, I was tired of being on my lonesome. It could get tiring talking to a dog.
