We started to walk back home with Cherry and Marcia. We found out that they had gotten to the drive ins with their boyfriends, but they got drunk so the girls ditched them. Me, Two-Bit and Marcia really hit it off and we were talking very openly with each other like we had known each other for years. Ponyboy and Johnny were pretty comfortable with talking to Cherry. Both seemed like nice girls, not like the other Socs.
We were all talking when we heard, "Cherry! Marcia!" All of our head's whipped back and when Cherry did, she accidentally hit my face with her hair. I was going to say something, but now was not the time.
"Cherry, Marcia! What the hell are you doing with these greasers?!" one of the Socs yelled.
"Who ya calling greaser?" Two-Bit shouted and took out his blade. Johnny took his out as well. I looked at his face and he looked like he was going to scream any minute. I broke 2 coke bottles and held one towards the boys and threw one to Ponyboy, even though I knew he wouldn't use it.
The 2 Socs were ready to fight us when Cherry shouted, "Stop! I hate fights! I-I just hate 'em! Look, we'll go with you, just no fighting, alright?"
In the end, Cherry and Marcia ended up going with those Soc boys, who turned out to be their boyfriends that the girls' had ditched. Before leaving, Ponyboy quickly said something to Cherry and she blushed and laughed.
We began our walk back, when Two-Bit pulled out a slip of paper.
"What is that?" I asked.
"Marcia's number," he said chuckling, "Probably a phony too. What was I thinking when I asked for 'er number?" he says, throwing it away.
"Anyhow, I better get goin'. See ya'll later," Two-Bit said and fake yawned. We all said bye to him and walked back to our house.
"Hey Olive, can I hang out with Johnny for a while?" Ponyboy asked me.
I looked down at my watch and replied, "Sure, just come back in an hour."
"Alrighty, thanks!" Ponyboy said and they both skidded off.
I laughed to myself as I walked inside the house.
"Hey guys! I'm home!" I hollered, while slipping off my muddy, black converse.
"Hey Ol! We're in here!" Soda shouted from the kitchen. I took a deep breath in and something smelled great.
"Mmm, that smells real nice. Whatchya cookin' Dar?" I asked as I took a seat down beside Soda at the dining table.
"Chicken." Darry replied.
"So, how'd it go?" Soda asked
"Oh it was great." I replied with a smile.
"Meet any boys???" Soda asked while raising his eyebrows up and down.
"Ew, no Soda!" I said with a disgusted face.
"Alrighty then," Soda said with a smirk and leans back onto his squeaky chair. I smacked his arm and he smacked me back. Then I stuck out my tongue.
"Olive, where's Ponyboy?" Darry asked while putting the chicken down on the table.
"Oh, I told him he could go to the lot for about an hour with Johnny." I said while filling up my plate with some chicken.
"Ok, then. As long as he gets home soon. It's almost 11." Darry said and sat down on the chair with an oof.
We ate our dinner in peace and quiet until Luna started crying from upstairs.
"Looks like someones' gonna need a change." Soda said and nudges my arm.
"I'll take this one," I sighed and walked up the staircase.
I walked to Luna's room and she was crying. I picked her up and felt her bottom. Yup. It was nice and moist. I took her over to the diaper changing table we have for her and gently placed her on it. I got a diaper out of the pack we have and walked over to Luna. I slowly ripped off the diaper and it was like a bomb went off.
The smell was so sour and foul I had to cover my face with my shirt.
"Jesus, Luna," I said as I quickly wiped her bottom and changed the diaper. I picked up the diaper which was filled with, well ya know, and disposed of it as quick as possible.
I picked her up and held her in my arms as I plumped down onto the rocking chair Mom used to cradle her to sleep. I started rocking back and forth on the chair, softly singing her favourite lullaby.
Somewhere, over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dream
Once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dream of
Dreams really do come true-ooh-ooh
Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops that's where
You'll find me, oh
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
And the dream that you dare to
Oh why, oh why can't I? I.....
I looked down at her peaceful face, she was already asleep. She was lightly snoring, with her belly going up and down, up and down.
I remember the first time I ever saw Luna....
