It's been a solid 3 months since you, and your family moved to japan.

You were honestly pretty excited and couldn't get a wink of sleep the night you left for the airport.

You regretted that stupid decision of yours because jett lag hit you like a bitch.

During the first few weeks in Japan as a fresh immigrant, it was like a fairy tale.

A child visiting Disneyland for the time. But like all happy things come to an end. The longer you stay in Disneyland, the more expensive things get.

In Japan, the cultural difference barrier gives your social life a sucker punch in the gut.

It all starts with just saying " huh?" To people in japan.

" Huh" doesn't exactly mean, " huh " back. And this, you had to learn the hard way. But that's a story for another time.

-

" The total is 852.66¥"

You take your wallet out of your pocket and hand her the cash. The cashier looks at you confused.

You squint your eyes and try counting the money again.

'Why won't she take it? It's the exact amount.'

The thought hits you like a tonne of bricks. You place the cash on the blue tray and do a small bow.

Your face flushes with humiliation, and you quickly tuck your hands into your pockets and look away.

"Would you like a receipt?"

"No, thank you,"

She rips the receipt printing from the machine and slides the plastic bag accros the counter.

She bows and says, "Thank you for shopping with us; please come again."

You give a slight nod and take the plastic bag, hurrying out the door, still a little ashamed about what unfolded.

You haven't been to that store in a while because your mother made a fuss over 'Why they don't want to take tips.'

It was a ridiculous argument on your mother's part, but nothing can persuade her otherwise because she's stubborn that way.

Of course, you explained to her the differences between things, and once she understood, she respected it.

Now, it's a story that gets brought up and laughed about, during family dinners.

But, because you were too embarrassed to show your face at the convenience because of the gossip, you chose to stay away for a while. Just to give things a chance to calm down, yk.

-

Walking home, you felt a tickle of a water drop roll down your forehead.

When you looked up, you swiftly pulled out your umbrella and avoided being rained on.

Rain was something you like, but being wet was a another story.

Just as you were about to take a another step, a body was hurled at the foot of your figure.

You moved your head stiffly in the direction it came from.

A boy in a white uniform with the initials BD stood there in the rain, his white gloves bloodied.

You return your look forward.

" Yeah, no. I don't have the energy to do this "You mumble under your breath, taking a step over the body and continue going without looking back.

'Did it pique your interest? yes. But were you lazy? Yes, well-'

Rain began to pour harder and heavier, interrupting your stream of thinking. For a little while, you stood still.

Considering whether or not what you were about to do was a smart idea.

'I have no idea who this person is.
But my conscience will eat me up.'

When you looked back, you saw the boy sitting on top of the bodies heaped on top of each other. The thought made your skin crawl.

Not at the thought of bodies, but at the prospect of being wet in rain. His clothing stuck to his skin.

You took a spare umbrella from your purse and held it high above his head.

His gaze remained fixed on the ground. "I don't need your sympathy, woman."

"Okay, yeah..idc." You drop down to his level and take his hand in yours, placing the umbrella on his palm.

With a lighthearted grin, you stand up dusting your slacks.

As you turn to leave, the boy catches your wrist.

"How much," the boy grumbles, his gaze averted from yours.

"Huh?" You quickly slap your hand over your mouth.

Panicking, you yank you wrist from his hold and sprint away. Anxiously glancing at the boy, you shout." YOU CAN HAVE IT!" Disappearing in the rain.

"...."

-

He rises from the stack and lifts the umbrella to reveal his face.

"What an idiot..giving things away for free..." he mumbles, a little smile plays on his lips.

"Koko!"  inui yells out, waving from the distance.

"Did anythg happen while I was gone?" the platinum blonde asked, panting.

He responds with a hum.
" Nothing much."

'Huh?' sounds alot like 'ha?!' in japanese which expresses if someone is upset/ angry. And it can get quite confusing from time to time.
