“Can I open my eyes yet?” Istoria said laughing a bit. My father smiled, it had been a while since we’d heard her laugh. She was getting better.
“Not yet mom!” Theros laughed. Poza was leaving a trail of flowers in her wake.
“You okay?” I asked her. Falling into her pace.
She shook her head. I realized blue orchids were growing behind her with every step she took off the ground.
“Hey, why are you sad?” I grabbed a handful of flowers and turned them into a crown with a mere thought. Me and Istoria had worked on her powers while they were back in the city of the lost. I placed them on her ghostly head and she smiled a bit.
“How do I know I won’t be a burden on this trip? That I won’t get in the way of Theros and his family?’
“You won’t. I don’t think anything could get in the way of Theros and his brother. At this point, my dad couldn’t get in the way of a happy reunion with me and my other family. Your gonna be fine.” I assured her.
“Alright, mom open your eyes!”
“you put a blindfold over them kid I physically can't without closing them again.”
Poza laughed and took the blindfold off of Istoria.
“What the-”
We were right by the ocean with a boat sitting on a dock.
“I bought us a boat so we can travel to the place in Fidel’s memory book. She gave us coordinates and everything. I- I hoped we could deliver the news to her friends and maybe get you some closure.” My father spoke with caution in his tone, making sure Istoria was approached carefully. She had gotten better in the last few months but none of us were going to throw caution to the wind.
Theros looked at Istoria’s face. The smile wiped clean off of it.
“We don’t have to go now, mom. It’s okay we can wait.” He spoke like he didn’t have family he wanted to meet. Like the only thing that mattered at that moment was Istoria and if she was okay.
“Yeah, we can go back Isotria,” Spitha said holding Istoria’s hand. Reassuring her that she could choose to go back. The kid appeared out of nowhere whenever needed most.
Istoria’s face became steely with determination.
“Her friends deserve to know. They were her family for years after all.”
She strolled onto the boat and looked at Theros.
“If you almost fall to your death again kid-” she warned. Smiling at her son.
Theros walked safely onto the boat.
“I do think I need another haircut though.”
Istoria laughed and summoned a chair and some scissors.
“Sit down kid we’ve got an entire boat ride.”
I smiled. Summoning the bag I carried around with me at all times. Photos of who I thought were my mother’s friends and then in my hand sat a little frog.
