Unexpected Ending

I've been reading this book that's called The Stranger, and it's pretty good so far. What scares me a little though, is that the main character has the same name as me, Alena, and has the same appearance as me. It's really strange. In the story, Alena has a friend named Mackenzie, and so do I. The character Mackenzie even acts like my best friend. But, it's all coincidental. It's not like the story is based off of my life, that's just silly. So, right now, I'm heading to my favorite cafe, going to get some coffee.

I walk into the cafe, order my coffee, wait, and sit down at a table once I get my drink. I pull the book out of my purse, and open it up to the bookmarked page. I remove the bookmark and place it on the table, beside the book. Then, I begin reading where I left off. My eyes widen after reading the first sentence. The sentence reads "Alena walks into her favorite cafe". Okay, this is too much. It just can't be a coincidence. But it has to be. Well, it's not like Alena got a coffee too, right?

I hesitantly read the next sentence. It reads "Once Alena gets her coffee, she takes a seat near a window". My table is in fact near a window. What's next? I have to know. Will I meet a stranger? I continue reading. "Alena's best friend, Mackenzie, walks into the cafe, unexpectedly". Well, it got that one wrong. Mackenzie isn't here, thankfully. Not that I don't like her, but it would be unusual for her to be at this cafe, since she never comes here. I hear the bell on the cafe door, and I look up from my book.

My mouth opens in shock as I see Mackenzie walk in. It seems like she didn't notice me. I resume reading. "Mackenzie orders her food and then spots her best friend". Oh, great. Please don't see me, Kenzie, please don't see me. I see her ordering, then she turns around while waiting. She smiles as her eyes land on me. This can't be happening. She walks over to my table. "Hey, I didn't know that you come here." She says.

"Yeah, I come here a lot, actually. I've never seen you here before." I tell her. "Oh, yeah I've never been here before. I was just in the mood for cafe food." She says, laughing. "That explains it." I look behind her. "I-I think your food is ready." I stutter. "It is?," She turns around. "Oh, thanks." She says before walking over to get her meal. Should I even keep reading at this point? I have to know what happens. I go back to reading again. I read Mackenzie and I's entire conversation, including when she walked away to get her food.

I'm just not even surprised anymore. The next sentence reads "Alena gets a call from an unknown number". Oh, great. I wait for my phone to ring. Sure enough, it starts buzzing. I probably shouldn't answer this, it is a story after all. I read the next sentence. "Alena answers her phone, and a man tells her to meet him outside". No, no way. What happens if I don't answer the call? You know what? I'm doing it. I press the accept button, and press the phone against my ear.

"Meet me outside the cafe, right now." A man says. It seems like the man is using a voice changer. I shudder, my breathing heavy. Before I can say anything, the call ends. From the corner of my eye, I see Mackenzie walking towards me. "Were you talking to somebody? Who was it?" She asks me, invading my privacy. "Actually, it was my sister. She wants me to meet her right now." I lie. "Right now? I just got here though, you can't meet her later?" She asks me. "Sorry, it's pretty important. I really should get going." I say, and rise from my chair, grabbing my coffee and my purse.

Just as I'm walking away, I hear her shout "Wait, you left your book!" I ignore her, walking faster. I never want to see that book again. But, it would be pretty useful, so I can always know what's going to happen. I pause, and turn around, walking over to her. "Thank you." I grab the book from her hand. She smiles at me. "See you later." She tells me. I nod and turn back around, walking over to the door. As I walk outside, I slip the book back into my purse. Now, where is this guy? All he said was to meet him outside.

I decide to wait outside the door. Maybe he'll just walk up to me. I really hope this is some friend pranking me, and not some creep. Or, instead of waiting, I can read what happens next. I grab my book out of my purse, and turn to my current page. It'll probably tell me where he is. I skip through Mackenzie and I's short conversations, and read "Once Alena exits the cafe, she sees a man wearing a mask and a black hoodie walking towards her". I look up, my eyes searching for a man with the same description.

They land on a guy wearing all black walking towards me at a slow pace. I shut the book and stuff it into my purse. Once the man's standing in front of me, he takes my arm, leading me to an alley. This definitely isn't good. I knew I shouldn't have answered that call, yet I did anyway. Once we're in the alley, I think about reading the next sentence in the book, but I decide that I probably shouldn't because he's standing right here.

While lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice that he had walked away. I pull my book back out of my purse, confused. I hastily turn to the last page, and keep reading, skipping the sentences that say what already happened. "Then Alena collapses after feeling intense pain in her head". I am so dead. All I can do is wait. So I just stand here, my hands shaking and my breathing rapid. The stranger hits me in the head with something. I collapse, my vision blurry. I can barely make out anything. I see the man walk in front of me, and he takes off his mask. Tears stream down my face as I recognize the man as my father.
