I sit down on the couch and turn on the tv, bored. Everyone else is either trick or treating or giving out candy to the trick or treaters. What am I doing? I'm sitting on my couch in front of my tv eating popcorn. What a great way to spend my Halloween. With the remote I switch channels carelessly, grabbing a handful of popcorn with my other hand.Ugh, nothing good is on. Everything is about Halloween and that's the last thing I want to think about right now! Seriously, why isn't there something just...normal on tonight? For someone sitting in their living room alone...oh who am I kidding? Nobody else is doing that but me.
Suddenly I watch as the screen changes to a man driving, looking straight at the camera. Stupid commercials. I sigh, about to change the channel again. "I know you're watching, Amy." I freeze as the man says my name. My eyes widen and the remote falls from my hand and on to the floor, making a loud noise that makes me flinch.
The man chuckles before saying, "I bet you're on your couch, changing channels. Come on, Amy! It's Halloween night! What are you doing? Of course you, staying at home, that makes it easier for me to find you. Do you remember me, Amy? I'll give you a second." I stare at the man on my screen.
I'm shaking. I've never seen this man before in my life. How is this even happening? Everyone who's watching tv can see this? Who is this guy and how does he know who I am?! "Times up Amy. I hope you guessed right. It's Andy from the coffee shop! Remember now? I 'accidentally' bumped into you and you spilt your coffee all over your shirt. I bought you a new cup, and you gave me the most beautiful smile I've ever seen. I knew and I've always known there was a connection between us that day. Don't you think so too? That's why I'm coming over tonight", he sighs before continuing.
"I would have come over a lot earlier but I've only just now had...the confidence! I feel great! I've never felt better, Amy!" My breathing is shaky, processing that he's coming over, most likely on his way right this second! How does he know where I live? Well...probably some website or something. I can't believe how insane the internet is nowadays.
I stand up quickly, my vision blurry. I run towards my door, making sure it's locked and then close the blinds. "Amy, I know you can still hear me. Don't even try to turn the tv off, okay? I know you were about to." He says. I whimper as I look around. "But," he says, as he parks the car. "There's no point, because I'm already here." He grins as he takes his keys and gets out of the car. I stand in shock, not knowing what to do.
After a minute I hear a knock on the door and gasp, flinching. My breaths shorten. "Amy, I know you're home." I hear him say. "Let me in, it's me-" he says before he starts violently shaking the door knob, trying to get in.
"Wh- who is it?" I call out. "Don't worry, it's me! Now let me in!" He yells. "I- I'm not expecting any company!" I yell back. "Amy, I can recognize your voice! It's me, now let me in!" He yells out. I shiver. "Go away or I'll call the police!" I scream at him.
Just then it goes quiet. Then I hear the noise of glass breaking as he climbs in through my window, fighting off the blinds. He stumbles, falling before running towards me. "Why are you doing this?!" I scream at him. "Amy, Amy, it's me." He says looking at me. "J-Jacob? What are you doing here?!" I look at my ex boyfriend, frustrated and confused.
"I saw it on tv. I'm here to help you! Listen, I know Andy. We used to be good friends. When I saw him on tv and realized he was talking about you I came as fast as I could! I thought you got my messages! I sent about 10 of them! I was so worried." He tells me. "But...he said he's here. Jacob, he was getting out of his car and everything! We have to hide!" I whisper. I run up the stairs, motioning for him to follow behind me. I run into my room, out of breath. I then crawl under the bed and wait.
Impatient, I slowly crawl out from under the bed and whisper "Jacob? Where are you?" "I'm right here." I hear him say in the darkness, only he isn't whispering, almost like he's not afraid to be heard. "Are you okay, Amy? I haven't seen him downstairs." He says. "Yeah, I'm okay. Maybe he was only trying to scare me and he isn't really coming." I tell him.
"Hopefully. But you know, he sounds like a nice guy, maybe you should give him a chance." He says. "What?! Stop joking around. Come on, let's go back downstairs." I walk past him and head down the stairs. Before I can reach the end, on the last step I see that someone's laying there, bleeding. My heart starts beating rapidly, my eyes wide. It's Jacob.
