I wake up in a dark room. What happened? Where on earth am I? It must be a bedroom because after all, I am lying on a bed. The sound of footsteps startle me. "Hello?!" I call out, clutching the sheets as I sit up."I see you're awake." A man says. There's no way he can see that I'm awake, it's pitch black in here. "Who are you? What do you want?" I ask him. "What, you can't recognize me?" He asks with a laugh. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. "Maybe if you turn on the light I would." I mumble. "Who-" I start to ask again, but he interrupts me.
"You should know who I am. Even though it was just a few months, those months were special." He says. I know this man? "Still don't know?" He asks with a chuckle. "I'm very disappointed. You broke up with me because you said you were 'going through some stuff' and that I wouldn't stop talking to you anyways. I've been wondering for two years what that 'stuff' was. So, I brought you here to tell me." He says.
My eyes widen, and tears begin to form. "John?" I say, guessing. He begins to clap. "That's right, I knew you could do it. So, why did you actually break up with me? Were you having an affair or did you just...lose feelings for me?" He asks. "Hmm...let me see...you tortured my brother!" I yell out. "I thought that that was what you wanted." He says, confused.
"All I said was that he was always bothering me and that I didn't really like him. I never thought you would actually do something. You almost killed him, John!" I tell him, tears rolling down my face. He scoffs. "Almost killed him? I wasn't even close to killing him." "Wh-when he came home that night, he could hardly walk. We had to take him to the hospital." I tell him through gritted teeth.
"Oh yeah? Remember my sister, Judy? You nearly killed her, you know." He says in an angry tone. "For the last time, John! I didn't know she would do it! I was just so...upset with you and I took it out on her. You know how terrible I feel about it." I tell him.
"We, uh, couldn't even have her surgery because we didn't have enough money. She's still blind, Alice. Her biggest dream is to see again." I sigh. "I'm sorry, okay?!" I yell, desperately. "You should be. Now, you get to experience it for yourself." He tells me. I'm about to ask him what he means, but then I realize. This light must really be on after all.
