CHAPTER SIXTEEN
XVI. Boys don't cry.
~Suggests of toxic relationships and SA~
Dante Macus never really payed much attention to his daughter.
It was always Dad and Mason, Mason and Dad. Violet never really fit into the picture. It just kinda felt like she was his roommate that had to oblige to his rules when he decided to be a father for one day out of 365. He treated her as if she wasn't even his daughter.
To manage she began to look for solitude and comfort in the people she would date. Not having a mother growing up as a young girl also made it hard to know if these partners were treating her right.
Violet started to look for love in the form of older boys, She wanted to feel protected by them, She wanted them to love her. So she did everything they said. She cut out my friends, She wouldn't go home for days on end. She ended up completely isolated and alone with this stranger whom she never really even knew.
The girl fell in love with the idea that he would protect her from the evils of the world, The way her father never did. In the end she ended up alone and needing protection from them instead of by them.
She only wanted to be loved. She had no idea what was right and what was wrong, She had no guidance.
She had the idea that being uncomfortable was normal because she was in love with them. she thought because she was the woman in the relationship it was her duty to provide them something to do, even if she didn't feel like it that day or she was too tired to even move.
The bullying at school got so bad when he told everyone what he did to her. Everyone was quick to blame her for letting it happen but the worst part of it all was that she didn't even see the issue with what he did to her. Wasn't that what she was supposed to do? she thought.
Of course she didn't know what she wanted and what he did made her hate herself even more but she thought it was just a part of life until a girl came up to her and asked her if she was okay.
The girl had short blonde hair that had been cut into a neat bob and sat above her shoulders.
She told Violet that she heard what was going around and wanted to see if she needed someone to talk to.
The other girl was confused on why that would be necessary until the blonde explained what sexual assault, unwanted touch and consent was.
She went home that day and showered, she scrubbed her skin until it was red and irritated.
Violet couldn't understand why her boyfriend at the time had taken advantage of her, Had she not been a good enough girlfriend?
Dante was always focused on Mason or drinking and smoking his life away after Violets mother died. The young girl had no one to talk to, nobody to console in. Nobody to tell her that the abuse wasn't okay.
So she learnt the hard way, and she taught herself from the ground up.
She became her own parent and vouched to herself to never let anyone make her feel worthless ever again.
"That's not gold" Pope states the obvious as Violet climbs out of the crypt with the tan envelope in hand. "No shit, Sherlock. Obviously Booker has more concocting to do." The girl teased as she jumped down on the muddy ground causing shocks to run up her legs.
