"You guys okay?" Julia worriedly asked us from above to which Alex answered that we were just fine.
"We'll carry on then." I said. "Just wait here, Julia."
She then wished us well and then Alex and I finally took off. Alex had the only source of light, so he had to lead the way.
Walking along the dimly-lit hallways of the ship, it took us quite a while before we found the location of the engine room. After going down, Alex got scared of something out of nowhere.
"Ah! Goddammit!" Alex exclaimed.
I could see that there was no one there, and I figured it must be the hallucinations kicking in.
"You're... you're right, Emma, about what you said earlier. Yeah... I think I'm actually seeing clearly for the first time in a while. None of this shit is happening. Nothing jumped out at me." He was breathing pretty heavily, and was lightly chuckling in relief. "There's no weird drowned people. None of this shit that's freaking us all out is real."
"I'm glad you're finally seeing it." I said, patting him on his shoulder.
"Yeah, we're just pretty worked up, that's all." He nodded, like he was still trying to convince himself. "Have you noticed how there's always this fog around? I think it's somehow causing it."
"Yeah, you're right... I just realised something."
"What is it?" He asked.
"Remember when I said that the Manchurian Gold might not be actual gold?" I asked him, feeling quite proud of what I just thought of.
"Yeah? What about it?"
I paced around. "What if it's some sort of hallucinogenic drug? I mean, I've never done drugs myself so I don't know what the fuck it really is. But it's possible, right?"
"I see your point." Alex nodded.
"We have already come up with a very nice theory, but all this is just guesswork until we find real and concrete evidence to back this all up. For now, whatever hell we might see, let's not go around attacking without thought." I bluntly said, partly assuming control.
"I hear you."
Quite satisfied with how our discussion went, we soon decided to continue with our search for the generator. It took us a bit of a while before finding it and powering it up. I hope Julia had relaid the message properly.
Because of what happened with the floor earlier, we had to find a much safer way to get back up and reunite with Julia. But as we were making our way back to the control room, we found their rebreather just lying on the floor. The fishermen must have brought it here for some reason.
"I don't think it's worth the risk taking this with us. It's only gonna slow us down." I told Alex and he approved. That's good.
And then we heard a shouting match from the nearby room. We approached the hole in the wall and listened in while trying not to get caught by any of them.
I couldn't fully understand what they were talking about. Although I could tell that Danny, who was tied on a chair, was begging for mercy from Olson. But the latter just keeps on telling the other to shut up. Whatever they were actually talking about, must be really bad.
Danny's begging was cut short when Olson stabbed him in the stomach. Alex and I both gasped and took a step behind. Olson then lifted Danny's body and put it on the table.
Danny should have just shut up. He'd probably still be alive.
And then I spotted the distributor cap on another table. There it is, finally! We have to somehow get it from him.
