Chapter 11: New Beginnings and Family Bonds
Jaemin's knees nearly gave way as he struggled to process what he'd just heard. His heart seemed to skip a beat or two, and for a moment, he wondered if his ears were deceiving him.
Did Renjun really say he wanted to keep the baby?
"Jaem? Are you okay?" Jeno's voice pulled him back to reality.
Jaemin nodded, though he was still in shock. He hadn't expected Renjun to choose to keep the baby despite the stress and uncertainty. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a bit tired," he lied, trying to mask his surprise.
The doctor turned to Renjun, asking, "Is this your final decision, Mr. Huang?"
Before Renjun could respond, the door burst open with a dramatic flair. "I heard the news, Ge—!" An orange-haired man charged into the room.
Chenle, Renjun's younger brother, stood before them, and Jaemin recognized him from the numerous FaceTimes Renjun had shared. Chenle was brimming with excitement, clutching onto his older brother, Sicheng.
"Ge is having a kid!" Chenle announced joyfully, hugging Sicheng.
Sicheng gave him a playful pout. "You weren't this excited when I had Yuto."
"That's because you don't have two boyfriends, Ge," Chenle retorted, rolling his eyes.
Jaemin smiled, remembering how close Renjun was with his siblings. "How have you guys been? How old is Yuto now? It's been a while since I've seen him."
"Well, Yuto is with his father right now," Sicheng explained. "They went out for ice cream. I wanted to see you, but then Mom told me she was calling off the wedding."
Renjun's heart sank. "I'm sorry, guys. I didn't realize that my being hospitalized would affect the wedding."
He felt a pang of guilt, believing he had let everyone down. He couldn't bear to think how disappointed Jeno and Jaemin must be, especially after waiting so long for this day.
"It's okay, Renjunnie," Jeno said softly, reaching out to hold Renjun's hand. "We don't have to rush the wedding. Actually, I was thinking maybe we could have it after the baby is born."
Jaemin nodded in agreement, his expression one of relief. He liked the idea of postponing the wedding until after the baby arrived.
Renjun's face brightened at Jeno's suggestion, and he leaned in to give Jeno a gentle kiss on the cheek.
"Hey, that's not fair, Renjunnie. I want a kiss too!" Chenle called out with playful enthusiasm.
"Come here then," Renjun said, smiling as he gestured for Chenle to come closer.
Jaemin moved closer to the bed, allowing Renjun to give him a small, affectionate kiss on the cheek as well.
"Ge and his boyfriends are so cute!" Chenle exclaimed, his excitement unabated. "I want to have two boyfriends like my Ge!"
"Don't you already have one?" Sicheng teased, making everyone laugh.
