With a heavy pain in his chest from frantic breaths escaping his lungs and his legs aching from the long minutes of sprinting, Chris groaned as he flung his body against a short black gate.He looked behind him to find the dogs still bounding after him, snapping and growling as he clung to the fence. Chris whipped his head back around and shook the fear from his mind as he latched his palm onto the top of the fence and groaned, hoisting himself up to the top of the wall.
Chris grunted in pain as he rolled off the top of the gate and collapsed onto the dirt on the other side, feeling the wind get knocked out of him as he hit the ground with immense force.
Chris clutched his side as he kneeled against the gate, watching with tired eyes as the dogs on the other side skidded to a stop and barked viciously at him. Chris dropped his head, breathing heavily in exhaustion, ears ringing from the sharp barks.
Still clutching his side, Chris stumbled to his feet and exhaled sharply, turning to look behind him. He stood right next to a large crypt with an angel wielding a bow and arrow, the arrow tip a bright turquoise.
The area beyond the open crypt was covered in graves and dead trees, fog swirling all around, distorting his vision even further.
Past the stone walkway laid the huge mansion he had skirted around. It was still just as grand and magnificent to him, even through his tired and weary gaze.
Chris huffed as he trudged forward along the stone walkway, gripping his hip and wincing in pain.
His eyes were trained on the back door to the mansion up the short flight of stairs. Chris stumbled up the concrete steps, slowing to a stop at the door leading inside.
He looked over his shoulder and let out a deep sigh, watching as the dogs paced back and forth along the distant fence.
Chris let out one last breath before looking back to the mansion.
Don't worry, guys. I'm coming.

Jill pushed open one of the double doors on the east side of the main hall with the barrel of her pistol.
She rested the pistol in her grip as she took small steps forward into the dark room. Her eyes glided across the artwork hung neatly on the walls. Although the room was dark, a polished marble statue of an elegant woman lit it up.
Jill's eyes lingered on the woman for a few more seconds before she walked slowly past the statue and nudged open the next door. Jill held her hand up to her eyes to block out the bright light that shone onto her face from the next room.
The bending hallway before her was lined with dark tile and beige wallpaper, dressers placed along the sides of the hall and windows opposite them. Jill cleared her throat softly and crept down the hallway.
