Chris grunted with effort as his legs waded through the heavy water reaching up to his knees. He was in the midst of a huge circular room with several stories of walkways below him, all submerged in water. In the middle of the big room was some kind of abandoned generator that reached all the way up to the ceiling. Chris had never encountered a place quite like this, and he wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing.
He started to trudge along the flooded walkway towards the door at the end of the curved platform but jumped lightly when he heard a door slam open and echo from the other side of the room.
Richard stumbled through the doorway and splashed into the water as he stumbled to his knees. He gasped as his face was submerged and struggled back up to his feet.
Chris' eyes widened and he quickly turned to make his way over to Richard across the platform. "Richard!" Chris called out, grunting again as he lifted his legs up through the water. Richard gasped and quickly got up to his feet as he saw his teammate.
Chris owned a look of concern on his face as he approached Richard and put his hand on his shoulder. "Richard, what are you doing here?"
Richard shook his head and chuckled nervously. "Just getting some fresh air, Chris. That's all..." Richard gently shifted Chris' arm off of him.
Chris watched Richard with uncertainty. "Richard, this place isn't safe. Especially with your wound, you need to rest." Chris lowered his head to try to meet Richard's eyes.
Richard shook his head frantically, avoiding Chris' gaze. "I'm fine, Chris. Really, I'm..."
Richard started to tilt backwards, and would've fallen into the water if Chris hadn't grabbed him by the arm and pulled him upright. "Hey, hey..." Chris murmured as he steadied his wobbly friend.
Looking over Richard with a somber expression, Chris started, "Richard, please—"
"—I'm not going anywhere! God, Chris... just leave me be." Richard groaned and shoved him off, more forcefully this time.
Chris narrowed his eyes, growing more confused and concerned for his teammate by the second. "Fine. If you don't want to go to Rebecca, then you're coming with me."
Richard shook his head again. "No, Chris. I cant... Save yourself and get out of this place." Richard finally looked up at Chris, tears brimming in his eyes.
Chris hesitated and took another step towards his friend. "Richard—"
"Fuck, Redfield!" Richard yelled, and frantically began to roll up his sleeve. Chris widened his eyes as he recognized a bite mark, stained with dried blood.
Chris' eyes lingered on the mark for a while longer before looking up at Richard with shock.
"I'm already dead, man... just leave me where Rebecca won't see this..." he murmured, and looked back down to the floor.
