I had a sudden urge to pee. I was woken up by something tingly at the back of my neck. My eyes snapped open when I realised that I really, really needed to go to the bathroom. I threw the covers off my body and tried to sit up. A heavy arm, wrapped around my waist, restricted me from stretching my aching and stiff muscles. Memories of last night replayed in my head, my lips twitching slowly into a smile. I turned over to see Jace fast asleep, light snores coming from his mouth and his nose nuzzled into my neck. My face scrunched up, I really need to go pee.

“Jace … Jace,” I whispered in his ear, pushing away his hair from his forehead. His reply was his arm tightening around my waist, nuzzling his face in my neck a bit more and an ignorant grunt.

“Jace, Jace, JACE!!” I repeated, this time adding a bit more volume into my voice.

His reaction was priceless. His eyes snapped open and he jumped up from the bed. He stood over me, snarling and growling. He was in ‘protect mate,’ state and his fat ass was squishing me.

“How heavy are you?!?!” I wheezed out. Only then did he snap out of his stance and turned his head towards me. His eyes softened at the look of pain on my face. Yet, he did nothing to get off of me.

“What the hell, Jace? Get off me, I need to pee!” I shouted at him, amusement clear in my voice. Jace jumped off me and started laughing hysterically. Oh hell no! I rolled out of bed and fell to the floor in a heap of pillows and blankets. I could still hear Jace’s laughter ringing through my ears so I quickly stood up and composed myself. My icy cold glare was enough to cut off Jace’s laughter, even though a small smile still remained on his face.

“I thought you needed to go pee,” Jace said, amusement dancing in his eyes. My eyes widened at the sudden realisation of my urge to go the bathroom. I turned on my heel and ran to the bathroom, more muffled laughter coming out of Jace. I brushed my teeth and washed my face before returning back to the room. When I came out, Jace was sitting, cross-legged on my bed, eyes intently focused on the television. I sighed in annoyance and climbed into bed and poked his face. His swatted my hand away and turned to look at me. Without a hesitation, he wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him. I rested my head on his shoulder and stared up at the television. That’s when I remembered what happened on the day of my birthday.

I widened my eyes and jumped away from my mate. I got off the bed and backed into the wall, shaking my head repeatedly. My eyes locked onto Jace’s, his eyes filled with worry. I couldn’t believe what I was about to do. I’m pretty sure that I’m going to regret this mistake as soon as it’s done. Jace stepped towards me cautiously, taking a deep breath, I lifted a shaky hand and stopped him.

“Jace… I’m really sorry but can we please take this slow. I’m not ready for a relationship yet, not after what you put me through. Please… give me some space for now. I have a lot on my mind and I have to …. do some stuff. Please, just … we can’t do anything yet. Not now. Not until this is over.”

Jace looked at me in bewilderment, his eyes wide and lips slightly parted. Emotions flickered through his eyes, pain, hurt and confusion. He straightened up and looked at me in determination. Oh boy, he is not going to let me go so easily … Jace started speaking with clenched fists and his jaw clenched.

“What are you talking about!?!? What about what you said yesterday? Please, don’t push me away. I just got you back and I can’t lose you. I can help you with your ‘stuff,’ just don’t push me away. I’ll wait for you, even if it takes forever but don’t push me away, that’s all I’m asking for,” the desperation in his voice was killing me inside.

My heart was paining, I didn’t know what to do. If I had a relationship with Jace, that would mean putting him in danger. But, I needed his help, like my mother said, “He’ll be my greatest strength.”
