“I am so happy for you!” Juliet yelled from the other end of the line. At the moment, I was sitting in a closet, in one of the guest bedrooms. When Felix entered the bathroom to shower, he left his phone on the bedside table. It sat there. Mocking me. After a minute or two, I reached out, took the phone and ran out of the room. The palace is still new to me, so when I didn’t know where I was, the only solution was to hide somewhere. Anywhere, which happened to be a guest room. Thinking that calling Juliet would be a good way to release my anger and sorrow, but I was wrong. She is siding with him.
“Don’t be happy. Get me out of here.” I whisper into the phone.
“Do you not know?”
“Know what?” What is she talking about?
“I’m living in the palace as well.” Silence. “The Beta prince chose me to be his.”
“Robbyn…”
“Oh so you know him.”
“Yeah, I met him earlier today. I was eating breakfast and he started to laugh at me.” A frown forms on my face when I recall his presence.
“He’s so sweet! I’m already in love with him, and--” A door closes in the background. “Oh he just got back. I have to go, bye!” She rushes.
“No wait! Can you come and get me?”
“Where are you?”
“I don’t know? But I do know I’m in a closet in a guest room.”
“Are you kidding me? There is like a gazillion guest bedrooms in the palace! It would take me forever to find you.”
“If it helps, the closet is walk-in.” I let out a humorless chuckle. She doesn’t speak for at least a minute and I’m sure her face has a blank look on it or she’s shaking her head at me.
“Fine, and no it doesn’t help.”
“Thank you!”
“Don’t thank me yet. I don’t know how long it will take to find you. Bye.” She hangs up
I stay seated on the ground against the wall thinking about what will happen if Felix finds me. Oh no . . . my scent. He can follow it and find me! Looking at the clothes around me, an idea comes to mind. I grab a dark gray Pink Floyd shirt, a navy blue hoody and some baggy black shorts- men clothing. Once they are on, I lift the hood and leave the room, making sure to close the door behind me. I walk down the hall slowly with my arms crossed.
All of a sudden, footsteps echo around the hallway. I peak behind me, covering most of my face. Felix stops in front of the door to the room I was just in with a stern look on his face. He enters the room and disappears from sight. He comes back out a minute later looking pissed. He looks down the hall he just came from then the hall that I stand in looking at him with wide eyes. When he sees me, he starts to walk in my direction. “Jude. Where is Lane?” Who’s Jude? He must be the owner of the clothes I’m wearing. I turn around and begin my walk away from him in a fast pace but Felix has longer legs than me. He grabs a hold of my arm and pushes me against a wall roughly. My head is covered by my hood and is facing the floor therefore he can’t see me. “I can smell her scent in your room and on you! Now where is she?!” He pushes me to the floor and I turn my head to the side. I bite my bottom lip to stop myself from making any noise and it starts to bleed. “Tell me!” He kicks my stomach twice and sits on top of me. He grabs my jaw tightly and makes me face him. His eyes widen in recognition. “Lane? . . .”
Tears were flowing down my face as my eyes supplied more. Felix pulls me to his chest and he whispers sweet nothings into my ear. The pain in my abdomen is unbearable. He pulls my shirt up and looks at my wound with guilt in his eyes. His finger tip caresses my stomach, making me hiss. “I’m sorry. I thought you were Jude. With the clothes and his scent and all. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” He keeps repeating softly. His angelic voice sooths me as I fall into a pit of blackness.
~Felix’s Point of View
When I exited the bathroom expecting to see my ‘oh so beautiful mate’, my heart ached. Not in a good way. She wasn’t there. The door to the room was open just a crack and my wolf started to panic. She can’t leave me! We just got her! NO! Go get her before some unmated pup gets their hands on my mate, my wolf Olin roared. His words made me furious and I left the room immediately and began to follow her scent. She smelled of citrus but it was sweet and not its normal sour smell. It lead me to a door on the other side of the palace. Jude. He is one of the young warrior recruits. I swung the door open and searched the room. Lane isn’t here. I look down the hall I just came from ready to send the guards after him and her but from the corner of my eye, a black figure catches my attention. The hoody was pulled up and I couldn’t see who it was but with a sniff of the air, Jude’s scent filled my nose.
Rage and fury blinded me as I took long strides towards him. “Jude. Where is lane?” my voice comes out gruff and menacingly. He just turns away and tries to rush away, but that isn’t going to happen. I grab his arm and push him against the wall. His head is facing the floor. That coward. “I can smell her scent in your room and on you! Now where is she?!” He stays quite. I push him onto the floor. “Tell me!” My foot digs into his stomach and my form climbs on top of him. My hands grab his jaw and tilt it to face me. My eyes widen and I pale. The person below me isn’t Jude. It’s Lane.
“Lane? . . . ” Her face has tears running down it and her lips are red with blood. What have I done? My hands go around her back and I pull her to my chest and begin to whisper soft, kind words in her ear. My eyes see her clutching her stomach so I pull her shirt up. Her stomach is bluish-purple with a few cuts here and there. My fingertip grazes it and as if on cue she hisses in pain. “I’m sorry. I thought you were Jude. With the clothes and his scent and all. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
Soon she passes out in my arms. “Lane stay awake. Please. Wake up!” I shout but it’s as if my words are specks in a breeze. Unimportant and ignored. I pick her up and run carefully to the pack doctor’s home. My foot makes contact with the wooden door, and it falls to the floor. Inside, Floyd sits on his couch with a mug in hand, staring at his door and then up at me. When he notices Lane, limp in my arms, he ushers me to his bedroom. I lay her down on the bed and caress her forehead. Don’t leave me.
Floyd comes back into the room after five minutes with a female doctor wearing a white coat. In the woman’s hands is an aid box and she promptly lifts Lane’s shirt and starts her work. Floyd kicks me out of the room, and I left unwillingly. Moon goddess, I pray to you. Please help her. Please. My wolf whimpers as he replays what we have done to our mate.
