A day has passed since the news came to Master. I knew this was hurting his pride big time. She came over today, in the pouring rain no less to keep her nephew company. The same smell of chemicals and perfume covered the smell of something else. Something familiar but just out of reach. I was looking through some papers with Sebastian, keeping an ear on the conversation between the Master and Angelina.

"Is this really the time for a game of chess?" Ciel scoffed at his Aunt.

"Obsessing about it won't help you solve the case. Why not just leave it all to Sebastian, dear?" Angelina suggested.

"'Cause he's simply my chess piece. I'm the one who moves him by giving orders, but he's no ordinary piece. He can move as many squares as he needs to, like that." Ciel said as he knocked over a chess piece.

Angelina gasped. "That was against the rules, you know."

"Indeed. It would be if this was a game, but rules such as that have no true meaning in the real world. There are always knights who break the rules and pawns who betray. If you let your guard down, it's checkmate." Ciel explained while putting the piece in checkmate.

"You must've had other options in life besides policing England's underworld. I'm sure my sister...your mother wanted something else for you, and yet after their deaths, you returned to be the Queen's Guard Dog. Is it because you're trying to avenge your parents' murders?" Angelina asked. Ciel took a sip of his tea.

"The need for revenge is a funny thing. It won't bring back the dead, nor will it bring them happiness." Ciel simply stated.

     "But then..." Angelina stopped.

"To answer your question, I didn't return to the house of Phantomhive for my parents. I did it for myself." Ciel told his Aunt, making her gasp. "I want to find the people responsible for what happened and I want them to experience the same pain and humiliation that I suffered."

"Mm, I still remember when you were born, though it seems so long ago." I heard her get to her feet, walking over to Ciel. "You were so tiny and fragile. I remember thinking, "no matter what, I have to protect him." You know I was never able to have children, but then there was you, and I've come to think of you as my own son, which is why I wish you would quit this." She consoled Ciel. I peeked over my shoulder at her. I could smell honesty as well as desperation. My eyes narrowed at her. The papers in my hand lowered a bit, making Sebastian focus on me.

"This is a task that I've freely chosen. It's still my choice for make and no one else's. I don't regret my decision and I won't be coddled by anyone." Ciel scolded his Aunt.

My head shot up when I heard a carriage pull in. I turned to Sebastian and pulled on his arm. He glanced at me. I pointed outside and then to my ear. He nodded before he walked up to the two. I slipped out of the room and went to the front. I could smell Grell on the other side of the door. He smelled of a woman. My eyes narrowed. He type wasn't women so why would a females scent be all over him. I grabbed Angelina's jacket and came back out just as her and Sebastian arrived. He nodded his thanks as he helped her put on her jacket.

"I have it now. Thank you." She smiled as she turned to us.

"My lady." Sebastian greeted while I bowed my head low.

"Promise me. Say you both will never leave his side." She looked at us. "This is a dangerous world for a boy. Make sure he doesn't lose his way?"

Sebastian and I both bowed, putting our heads down. "Fear not. I swear." We both said.

"I shall stay by his side until the very end." Sebastian vowed. When she was satisfied, we both got to our feet. Sebastian walked over to the door and opened it for Angelina. Grell stood on there, holding an umbrella.
