Kai was hard on Aru in the last chapter. He has been concentrated on training Aru into a champion in any way possible and he seems to avoid her most of the time that they aren't training. So, this is mostly a filler chapter and the background story of the five siblings; Hartford, Kai, Dallas, Aspyn, and Alva. Dallas does have a defined gender throughout most of this chapter, seeing as Dallas grows from 6 to their current age.

TW: This chapter does mention and has forms of abuse. If you are uncomfortable with that topic or are triggered by it, please do not read this chapter. As I said, this is just a filler and not that important to the plot, but it will explain why Kai acts the way he does and the competition between the siblings.

Yes, new character, Hartford. Hartford is the oldest sibling, even though Dallas introduced Kai as eldest. Here is how I imagine Hartford, but I never describe him, so you are welcome to imagine him however you please.

-Right now Hartford is 16, Kai is 8, Dallas is 6, Aspyn is 5, and Alva is 1-

"Father! I caught a deer!" the young boy said as he ran into the small cabin.

"Kaneem, hush, child. Your sister is focusing," his father scolded. Kai looked up at the table and saw Dallas holding her hand above a baby orchid. The flower grew and bloomed into a bright blue orchid.

"Father, look! I did it!" Dallas yelled happily.

"Yes, you did, darling. This is why you have always been my favorite," their father praised. He pressed a kiss to her temple and her face lit up with pride.

"Augustus, Kaneem is right there," Arabella whispered.

"Arabella, does it matter? He cannot always be so full of himself. He knows he is useless. He ruins our reputation."

"But, Father, I caught a deer for dinner. Y-you must be a little bit proud of me, right?" Kai asked, his voice sad.

Augustus stood up and brought his palm across Kai's face. "Kaneem, learn your place. You have no meaning in this family. The only reason we keep you around is you are a good hunter."

Dallas looked up from her orchid. "What did Kaneem do this time, mother?"

"Kaneem did something bad, darling. It's nothing for you to worry about."

"Go get the deer and clean it up so I can make it for dinner," Augustus demanded.

Kai's eyes started to water as he looked up at his father.

"Now, boy!"

"Yes, father."

Kai walked back outside and sat next to the deer. He placed his hand over the arrow wound and healed it. The deer's heart began again and it jumped up onto its feet.

"Run, deer. This is no place for you."

The deer pranced away into the dark woods.

"Hey, you little rascal!" Hartford called.
