AN: Is it bad I'm listening to full-on rock music while writing this? Also, due to me having Covid, I've temporarily moved back in with my mother, so I don't have access to my computer, meaning I'm writing this on my phone. That being said, this chapter and probably the next few are bound to have typos, so I sincerely apologize.

She was underwater. She could make out planks of wood sinking below her and fish passing by. A bubble of air escaped her mouth, but she quickly shut it. Her legs were trashing through the water. She couldn't make her way up to the surface.

Come on, Aru. This is not how this ends for you.

Swimming up, she took deep breaths. Her legs were getting tired from treading. "Help!" she screamed. "Kai! Aspyn! Somebody help!"

----

As Kai and his two sisters were walking away from the beach, Aru's pleas were being carried through the air. Kai stopped and he and Aspyn shared a look.

Kai spun around and ran to the shore. "Aru!" he yelled. There was no response. He kneeled to the sand and hovered his hand over the water. His vision faded away and went to what the lake saw.

Aru was sinking into the dark depths of the lake. Her limbs were weak, not bothering to fight back death. Her hair was covering the sides of her face. One last bubble of air was let out of her mouth before she inhaled the water. Then her body hit the lake floor, the sand coming up a bit.

His vision restored and Kai shot up.

"Kai, she's gone. Our minds are just playing with us," Alva said, grabbing Kai to hold him back from running into the water.

"I'm not imagining what I just saw! She needs help!"

"Aru is dead, Kai!" Alva yelled, getting Aspyn to help her hold him back.

Kai thrashed and kicked his foot back, kicking them both in the knee, causing them to fall back. Kai quickly unbuttoned his shirt until he was left in a white tank top and sweatpants. Kai threw off his eye patch and sword, letting them land on the sand.

He teleported to the place he had seen in his vision and tread in the water. He took a deep breath and dove under the surface. His vision stayed clear and he could see Aru laying on the lake floor. He swam twenty feet down before he had to come back up to the surface to take another breath. Kai's skin turned back to a red tone, which allowed him to breathe underwater.

He took a deep breath and dove back down. He swam down to Aru's limp body. Wrapping his arms around her, he teleported them both back to shore. He laid her on the sand and glanced up at Aspyn.

"Someone keep an eye on her vitals. I'll do CPR," Kai said, placing his hands in the center of her chest.

Aspyn rushed over and kept two fingers on Aru's wrist. "No pulse. Kai, hurry."

Kai pressed down on her chest with both hands and counted to thirty compressions. He glanced at Aspyn. "Nothing. Do the breaths now."

Kai did the rescue breaths, then went back to CPR.

"Wait," Aspyn said, holding up a finger. She let out a breath she had been holding. "I have a pulse."

"Oh, thank god," Alva said.

Kai glared at Alva. "You don't get a say right now. Aru could've died, no thanks to you."

"She did die, thanks to you," Alva spat.
