Naruto and Hinata were walking together to the academy, chatting excitedly. Today was finally the day they'll be receiving their headbands with all of them passing.
"Ahh I barley passed it, I'm so glad I was getting some extra help before attending," Naruto said to Hinata, placing his hand on his heart as he remembered his almost disastrous testing. He had accidentally made a wrong move while signing and ended up with a missing leg.
"I'm a little nervous if I'm being honest, we're gonna be assigned with real missions and actually traveling out." Hinata sighed as her smile wavered.
Naruto patted her shoulder, "Don't worry! I know you'll do an amazing job, think about all the experience you'll get!"
As the two continued chatting, a loud shout from behind caught their attention.
"Is that-? Naruto!!"
The two turned around, Naruto instantly grinning at the sight of the person. Jiraiya was smiling from ear to ear, waving his hand high in the air at them.
Jiraiya crouched down slightly and opened his arms when he saw Naruto running towards him. His chest rumbled in laughter as Naruto jumped into his arms, wrapping his arms around him and proceeded to twirl.
Naruto soon joined into the laughter, the two now being the loudest in the area. The people who were nearby simply rolled their eyes at the scene before continuing on with their tasks.
Jiraiya stopped twirling and lifted Naruto onto his shoulder, "Look at my boy! Growing up so fast and now ready to take on greater things!"
"Pervy Sage!" Naruto shouted excitedly, hugging Jiraiya's head and swinging his legs. "I thought you were leaving to do your research!"
"Well I couldn't leave without seeing you graduate, what kind of godfather would I be if I didn't show up?"
Hinata walked up to the two, smiling politely at Jiraiya, "Good morning Jiraiya-sama, pleasure to see you again."
"Hoho~ hello Hinata!" Jiraiya greeted, ruffling around her hair before placing Naruto back onto the ground. Hinata allowed him to do so and bowed her head down slightly. Naruto was glowing brightly, happy to know that his mentor and godfather was going to his big day.
Jiraiya placed his other hand on top of Naruto's head and also began ruffling his hair around.
"Really good job you two. I heard about how it all went and gotta say, you kids are an interesting batch."
"Hinata! Naruto!"
Another shout for them. The two looked back with Jiraiya's hands still hovering above their heads and saw Shikamaru and Choji further down.
Choji waved at them, munching on his chips.
"You two are gonna be late if you guys don't start heading to the academy." Shikamaru warned before turning around, waving his hand in the air.
"Are we really gonna be late?"
The two looked at each other for a moment before running to catch up with them. Naruto turned around without stopping and waved at Jiraiya, "See ya later Pervy Sage!!"
Hinata also waved him goodbye for a brief second.
Jiraiya watched as they caught up with the others, crossing his arms against his chest as he nodded fondly. At least this part of his day will be greater than the rest of it.
With Naruto in the group, he rushed all of them to walk faster in order to get to the academy in time. They were near the entrance, spotting their fellow classmates entering inside. Naruto hummed, his face having his unchanged smile.
