Billie’s POV
A cringe is plastered on my face when my eyes catch Sapphire sitting with Ally and the rest. I didn’t want her to get too friendly with them. Michael was bad enough, I didn’t want to have to go out again with the Brady Bunch.
But, after tonight we won’t have to worry. Tomorrow, we were heading back to Oakland- hopefully signed. We had been practising almost nonstop since Mike and Tre got here. We were ready, I could feel it and I wasn’t going to let 5 Seconds of summer or Strutter beat us. We already won at best band name, obviously.
“Where’s Saph?” Tre asks, appearing beside me.
“Down with those fags” I mutter, nodding my head towards the table. Tre looks over, eyebrows raised before a sly smirk appears on his face. He holds his finger to his lips, shushing me as he over exaggerates his tip toeing towards the table. He stops right behind Sapphires chair, his hands raised as claws. With a pounce, his hands fly to Sapphires shoulders making her shriek in fright.
She jumps out of her chair, knocking it over and stumbling a metre away. The fear is evident on her face as she spins around to see a very confused Tre.
“Wow… I really scared you!” Tre laughs, picking up the fallen chair.
Why is she so jumpy? She knows Tre does shit like this, why did she overreact so much?
I watch Sapphire from the distance, her chest heaving up and down. The others at the table watch on, exchanging whispers and puzzled looks. As her eye contact catches mine, she quickly looks away. Tre starts laughing again, grabbing Luke’s drink from the table and skulling it down.
(Definition of skulling: An Australian term for guzzling down a large alcoholic beverage, (usually beer) in a large glass or mug without taking a breath)
Sapphire quickly shakes her head before quickly walking towards the back door. Tre raises his hands in surrender as he watches her almost slam the door. I sigh, quickly jogging to catch up with her.
“Did I say something wrong?”
I ignore Tre, pushing open the heavy, steel back door. My eyes search the ally way until I see Sapphire, pacing the dirty, concrete floor. She is nervously bighting her nails, as she keeps her eyes glued to the ground.
“Sapphire…” I bite my lip, furrowing my eyebrows. She stops in her steps, her back to me. I slowly walk forward, reaching out to place a hand on her shoulder.
“Don’t touch me!” She whips around, slapping my arm out of the way. I almost stumble back, confused by her actions.
“I’m not going to hurt you… please” I reach out my hand, slowly edging forward again. She looks at me wide eyed, her makeup slightly smudged further around them.
When I finally reach her shoulder, I pull her into the chest and wrap myself around her. She doesn’t cry, nor move. She just stands there.
“I- I’m being stupid… aren’t I?” She finally says, her voice almost a whisper.
“I’m sure whatever happened is important” I mutter, closing my eyes.
Sapphire sighs, finally relaxing into my hug.
“I’m sorry” She says, burying her face into my chest. I break the hug, wiping some fallen tears with my thumb.
“Listen, Saph. You don’t need to be sorry for anything. I promise. Tell me when you’re ready, but really, it’d be no trouble for the boys and me to kill a couple of bitches-“
