10 year old Ferris Bueller brushed a twig he found on the ground against the metal fence, outlining the elementary school. Walking home was never fun, but having his best friend Cameron there with him helped. He was going to take the school bus home, but he missed it because Cameron needed help opening his locker. It was stuck. Again. He sighed, zipping his coat up further, as it was get chilly."Do you think your parents will be mad that you're not home in time?" Cam suddenly asked, obviously feeling bad for the inconvenience. He shook his head in response. "No, they usually don't get home until later, so they would've never known unless Jeanie decides to tell them." Cameron nodded his head. Ferris thought about there situation for a while. And that's when it hit him. Technically, if his parents aren't home to see that he isn't there, he can do whatever he wants until 6 when his parents get home. The only problem with that was Jeanie. She has no shame when comes to telling on Ferris, especially if he wouldn't be be home until 2 hours later. "Hey Cam?" Ferris asked. "Do you know if there's a phone booth anywhere?" Cameron looked up to him and narrowed his eyes. "Why? What are you up to Ferris Bueller?"
"Just an idea." He replied. "Is there a phone around here or not?" Cam paused before saying something, wonder if he should tell Ferris about the phone booth a block away or not. He eventually came to the conclusion that Ferris probably wanted to tell his sister that he would be late getting home so he wouldn't get in trouble. What could go wrong?
"Yeah, there's one a block away." He finally spoke, and Ferris nodded in understanding.
Once they got to the booth, Ferris put a couple coins in it and waited. "Hi Jeanie, this is Ferris." He said, and Cam could hear Jeanie respond in an upset tone, but it wasn't audible enough for him to understand what she was saying. "Calm down. I just wanted to tell you that I won't be home for an hour because I joined the drama club." He lied. Cam shoved him, whispering his disapproval so Jeanie wouldn't hear. Ferris just glared at him, and waited for her response. "Drama club?" Jeanie spoke, and you could just hear her lifting an eyebrow through the phone. "You said that school clubs were a waist of time and energy?" She questioned.
"Well, I changed my mind."
Jeanie was suspicious. "And Cameron? Where is he? I didn't see him on the bus today? And I know he wouldn't join the drama club cause he's the shyest kid in the whole neighbourhood" Ferris nervously looked at Cameron for help, but all he did was glare at Ferris, crossing his arms. "Umm, Cam.. is down the hall... trying to open his locker."
"Still? It's been 20 minutes since schools been over."
"Uh, yeah, it's pretty stuck." He said, glancing over to Cameron, who was rubbing his temples. Ferris could her Jeanie sigh before saying "put him on the phone." If Cameron wasn't freaking out before, he sure was now. They waited about 30 seconds before responding, to imitate Ferris getting Cameron. "H- hi?" Cam stuttered. "What going on?" She asked impatiently. "What do you mean?" He responded, playing dumb. "Ferris says you've been trying to open your locker for 20 minutes, and you two won't be home for an hour. I know he's lying and doing something dumb instead. Now tell me the truth." Cameron look at Ferris for help, but Ferris was busy mocking Cams 'glare and crossed arms' from before. "Uhhhhhh the truth is...Um" he tried to think quickly. "Just spit it out already!"
"Uh..we found....a...stray..dog?" Ferris facepalmed, while Cameron just shrugged in response. "A stray dog." Jeanie deadpanned, not believing one second of it. "Yeah, we...uh found a dog outside the school....and...um...we wanted to tell the principle, so...uh.. we missed the buss."
"Oh ya, and what did the principle do?" Jeanie spoke sarcastically. "Nothing!" He responded, as Ferris was leaning against the booths wall with his head in his hands "He said it wasn't the school's problem."
"Ok, so that means you have a dog now right?" Ferris shook his head aggressively, and Cameron gulped. "Ye- yeah." He whispered. Ferris had finally had enough, and he quickly grabbed the phone from Cameron. "Anyways Jeanie, now you know our excuse, bye!" Ferris quickly spoke before he slammed the phone down.
