Three updates all at once? What?
Ari and I are curled up on the couch, back home in the cottage on Sol’s estate. Riah is out, and has been more out than in ever since we arrived. All the Daniel’s aside from Ari and I seem to be up to something, but no one has had the time or bothered to fill us in. Suddenly the children’s cartoon we’d been watching in interrupted and the New States seal appears on the screen. I sit up.
Elect Sol appears, his two sons at the side of him. Riah looks handsome, his hair out his eyes, in a dark all black suit, save an electric blue tie. I smile. David is wearing the same thing, only all black. Suddenly Jeanine bursts through the door, “Thank God! It wasn’t just me.”
I pat the seat next to me and she sits down. The Elect speaks, “Years ago, our ancestors were in charge of their own matching. Often they met in person, be even more so they used websites to advise them. At one point, although it is true that the States are a place of freedom, it was decided that making your own choices, often led to making very wrong ones. I grew up here, just like the rest of you, but my grandpa and his before me all agreed to one thing, sometimes wrong choices lead to great discovery. That said, I allowed several teens during my years as your Elect to pick their own match.”
Several gasps arise from the crowd. He pauses, looks to Riah and then to David, and continues, “Both my sons, Azariah and David, are happily married to the girls they’ve crushed on since pre-school. Along with them I had several other random boys and girls I’d noticed exhibiting acts of courtship, and matched them by adding a few points in an extra credit pool that automatically added ten percentage points on the match they would prefer. In fifteen years of my running the New States none of the matches have failed and have shown being happier than any other properly matched couples.”
Murmurs ripple through the crowd, I look at Riah and see he’s sweating bullets. Oh no...
“This research has thus shown me that people can be trusted to make their own decisions when they have been raised to make the right ones. Our young people don’t need a machine to tell them who they love! Lots of them already know. And this being said, I hereby abolish the Matched Program from use in the New States.”
Gasps from all around.
“In addition, I suspend all matches that were made in the last five years, and anyone else unhappily matched, for one month. That month is to be used to possibly find someone new, or just strengthen your relationship with your match. Effective in 24 hours.”
The shouts drown out whatever else the Elect has to say and bodyguards hurry everyone off stage. I cut off the TV, “Oh my God.”
We definitely should’ve stayed in Freedom.

Riah runs through the door an hour after the press conference ends, “Everybody out!”
Jeanine scoops Ari into her arms and they leave. Riah closes and locks the door behind him.
“Calm down,” I say, “It’s just a month.”
Riah grabs my arm and pulls me off the couch, “Come here.”
He tries to kiss me and I turn my head so it lands on my cheek, “No! I won’t let you touch me when you’re like this.”
Riah takes a deep breath and loosens the grip on my arm, “I’m sorry,” he kisses me gentle and sweet, “But I couldn’t stop him.”
“It’s okay,” I kiss him back, “We’ll be okay.”
I unbutton Riah’s jacket and shirt. He lifts me up and I wrap my legs around his waist, hands feeling his firm chest. Riah tosses me onto the bed and sheds his clothes, aside from his boxers. He runs his hand and effortlessly tugs my dress over my head. Next is my bra and then my panties, and then his boxers. We’re both rushing, since once we’re unmatched again it might be awhile until we can get this kind of release from each other. Riah starts to go for the handcuffs but I grab him, “Please don’t.”
“Will you be good?”
I bite my lip, “I’ll be the best.”
He smiles and connects his lips to mine, “Whatever you say Love.”
Riah fondles my breasts and places kisses everywhere skin is exposed. He rubs my clit, causing a small moan to escape my lips. He dips a finger into me and pulls them out, “Aren’t you horny today?”
I pull him toward me, “Please, Riah.”
He enters me in one smooth stroke and I’m suddenly filled with him and he rocks his hips, thrusting in and out of me. He kisses me, our tongues wrestling. At the same time he speeds up, causing me to moan louder until I’m eventually screaming from the pleasure he’s giving me. I grip his shoulders, digging my nails into them.
“I need to-“ I start to say, but Riah interrupts me.
“Wait. I’m right there too, Love,” He goes faster, pushing me closer and closer to the edge until, “Now!”
I let go with a scream ripping from my throat. I feel Riah’s seed enter me and after he’s released he lies next to me.
“I think that was my favorite time with you,” Riah says, “It was quick, but I think I got my point across.”
I smile, “How’s your back?”
He grins, “Might take a bit to heal, but I’m fine.”
“So we have twenty-four hours together,” I say.
“No we don’t,” Riah sits up and gathers his clothes, “I have to go back to my father.”
“What are we going to do?” I ask quietly.
He gives me a sorrowful look, “We are going to take a break.”
“That’s it?” I ask, “You fought so hard, broke so many rules, and we’re just going to walk away from this?”
Riah shakes his head, “No, we’re taking a break. Then in month we’ll pick back up.”
I smile shyly, “Really?”
Riah kisses my forehead, “Yes.”
I grab his arm to stop him from leaving, “Promise me,” I say, “Promise me that you’ll still be here for me when the month is up. Promise me you won’t leave me.”
“I promise,” He gives me a lingering kiss, and then is gone.
I wish that he would’ve made me promise him back because as it turns out, he didn’t change.
I did.
