At a young age, Elwynna MacKay believed that fire was a kind of magic. It's flickering orange and yellow flames couldn't be anything natural.
"It's simply a part of life." Her mother would say. "Hopefully someday I'll be able to show you everything."
But no matter what she said, Elwyn always felt there was something too beautiful in its warmth.
That was until it's beauty turned on the girl, ripping away everything she once held dear.

She sprinted through the middle of her village, wind whistling past her ears. The itch that ran up her back made her push harder as if their shadow was inches away from. She had to lose them before it was too late.
She barely made out her house through her messy brown hair, beyond the large oak in the middle of the village. She would be safe there- just a bit further.
A high-pitched laugh rang through the air as Elwynna felt a small hand grab onto the back of her dress, mere steps away from their door.
"Gotcha you!"
With a roll of her eyes, Elwyn skidded to a halt and turned to give her younger sister a scathing glare.
"That's not fair, Tina." Elwyn pouted, placing her hands on her hips. "You're legs are longer than mine. I should have gotten a head start."
Catina glared at her older sister, her long dark hair whipped around her in the fall's brisk wind. "You said that if I got you, you would give me your bread at dinner!"
Elwyn grinned, setting her sister on edge. "I don't know what you're talking about. I said if I made it to the house first, I get your bread. And look," The blonde quickly closed the gap between her and the house before placing a hand against the doorway. Elwyn smirked, "I made it here first."
"But Elly..." Her sister's quiet voice cracked as tears gathered in her storm blue eyes.
Elwyn didn't normally feel bad about messing with her sister- that was until she started to weep. Which happened far too often for the brunette's liking.
