CAUSE FOR CONCERN

{TALES BETWEEN TIME :: Part Six}➶︎➶︎➶︎
"When I saw his daughter in the lake with Arthur, I knew I was losing time. So, thinking on my feet, I blasted her Da, picked up his staff and blew her up as well. Then, I dove in and scrambled around for Arthur. Somehow, even with all his armor on, I managed to find him and pull him back shore. When I finally got him back to Camelot, we told him that he'd tried to elope and that I had gone after him-"
Alright, so a lot happened while I was gone- That much was clear. Between stories of Fae creatures and vengeful figures from the past, it seemed that our quest to rescue Mordred was the first occurrence that hadn't caused Merlin's or Arthur's lives to be on the line.
While my adventure in the woods had been pleasant, it had also been a bit too focused on me. Coming back to Camelot with alarm bells ringing had given me an escape from the whispered voices. Hopefully they would continue to be subdued.
Merlin's long arms rise toward the ceiling as he stretches back in his chair, Gaius' cracking fireplace before us, warm on this particularly chilly evening. I sit near the boy in a similar chair with my legs tucked up underneath me while I bring my warm clay mug to my lips. The aforementioned physician shuffles around behind us as he puts away his ingredients and tools for the night.
"All in all, I certainly wasn't bored while you were gone." Muses Merlin.
"No, not bored-" I shoot out a foot to nudge my friend's leg as I give him an amused scuff. "Just brushed by death's cloak a time or two."
"Well, Arthur can't be trusted to keep himself alive, so someone has to do it." Merlin retorts with a grin. "It's all a part of the job."
"Oh, of course," I purr sarcastically. "Along with mucking his stables and washing his clothes? Arthur's whole world would crumb without you."
"His world would crumb." Merlin states with wide eyes. "I doubt he can even get dressed by himself."
"Shirt maybe- but I doubt he could figure out a belt." The two of us share a hearty laugh as the subject drifts away.
It's nice, being able to sit with Merlin. It's nicer still knowing that he doesn't think any differently of me now that he knows I'm elven. Is this how he feels about me? As a confidant to his magic? He must, otherwise he wouldn't confide in me about his adventures as he has.
As I bring my cup to my lips a thought strikes me. Frowning, I turn to my friend and ask, "I must know... Morgana, she hid Mordred in her chambers willingly? She needed no urging?"
