Multiversal Mayhem

Boot up boo boos.

You were working on a side project that you had started back when Tari first mentioned the weird dream she had. You didn't know how well this was gonna work but you were willing to give anything a shot at the moment. You were going through the start up procedure when Mario makes you throw a switch too far and everything starts to arc and spark and read dangerous levels.

"MARIO! Look what you've done! You've possibly doomed us all!" You yell over the picked up winds and increasing strain of the machine.

"Oh noooo." He said absentmindedly. You groan but as the whine and strain rises to a crescendo you grab the portly plumber and jump out of the room as the machine explodes and rockets you and Mario further  before being sucked back. You held on to the idiot hero until you couldn't hold on anymore and you and Mario were thrown into the void.

You groan some time later slowly getting on your feet, and began to look for Mario in the new flat plane plain you woke up in, occasionally calling his name before you heard a cry for help. You rush over to see a blonde young woman trapped underneath some rubble. You quickly get to work grabbing pieces with your telekinesis until she could free herself.

"Thank you so much- Y-Y/N?" She asked looking shocked and a bit horrified. "What happened to you?"

"Uh I don't quite understand what you mean, I've always looked like this." You say shrugging currently shoving the fact she knows your name without meeting her on the back burner for later.

"Wait where are the others?" She asked looking around, now this, this started to make you panic when you thought of the sucking void and everyone else falling in.

"Fuck!" You say grabbing your head looking panicked. "TARI!" You exclaim before hearing the girl mutter.

"What was that?" You ask a little defensive.

"I said that some things just don't change." She said smiling at you. You relax.

"Sorry for using that tone." You apologize. "Well you know who I am mind if I get your name as it seems we're teamed up till further notice.

"Oh I'm Sofia." She said holding her arm out to shake which you shook but noticed that it was a familiar style of prosthetic.

"Oh you're one of those... oh jeez why do I keep forgetting the term. Meta... Runners? Is that right?" You ask and her face lights up.

"Yeah I am! But wait the term doesn't exist where you're from?" She asked confused.

"Well it's only me Tari and Belle where I'm from." You say rubbing the back of your neck.

"Wow... ok... that's a lot to take in." She said starting to walk the direction you had been heading. "But nows not the time to focus on that, now we gotta find our friends." She says determined.

"Right!" You say catching up with her and soon hear a young voice calling for a friend of yours.

"Meggy! Partner? Where are you partner?!" A blue orb with a dead octopus on his head was calling out.

"I'm not hallucinating am I?" Sophia asked you staring at the being before her.

"I'm pretty sure I have never taken those kinds of drugs in my life." You say before mustering the courage to call back. "Hey kid! Need help looking for someone?" You offer.

"Sure! My partner and her friend are missing and I can't find them." He says as this brings up a red flag in your mind.

"You wouldn't happen to be Auri, would you?" You ask squatting down to just above his direct line of sight.

"Yeah, what are you getting at stranger?" He asked you very wary of you two now.

"Just trying to clear up some things before pressing onward. So tell me what was happening before you found yourself here." You said sounding cryptic but just as confused as he was.

"Well we just nabbed the Spud Buds and we're about to go get this cat burglar and-" he began before you put up a hand.

"That's more than enough sheriff Auri. Thank you." You say smiling and standing back up. "Now I know that things may get awkward if we're not careful or fast enough." You finish picking Auri up and putting him on your shoulders.

"Whahahat do you mean?" Auri asked a bit scared.

"Because it's been at least a few months since Deputy  Meggy has returned from her vacation from where I'm from." You say flatly and Auri looks excited at first before it dawns on him.

"We gotta stop your Meggy from telling Deputy Meggy her future!" Auri said now making Sofia catch on.

"Ok let's go before that happens!" She said as you all started to run towards what looks like a big jumbled town.

"Are we sure were even gonna find people in there?" Auri asked holding onto your head.

"If what I'm seeing is correct, it's probably the only place we can go." You say as you start running on paved streets.
