You sat in the doctors office nervously, your daughter Leah sitting on your lap. She found pleasure at the fact that your legs shook, but she didn't realize it was for fun.
Ponyboy was sitting next to you and held your hand, squeezing it here and there, letting you know that everything would be ok.
Backtrack a couple months when Leah was just barely 4. When you and Pony took Leah to the playground one day, you noticed a strange behavior that occurred. Leah was standing at the top of the slide, completely frozen and staring out, not blinking once. You ran up to her and when she was able to move again, she began to cry.
"Mommy what happened?" She asked.
In that moment you knew that you needed to take her to the doctors to get checked out. One of your worst nightmares could be coming true. Your daughter could have epilepsy.
Today you were finally getting the results of all the million tests they'd done on Leah. All of those tests reminded you of when you were being tested for epilepsy, which eventually led to your diagnosis of absence seizures.
The door to the room opened and the doctor came in and took a seat in front of the 3 of you. His face looked sad. I was expecting the worst.
The doctor cleared his throat, "I'm sorry to tell you this, but your daughter has epilepsy. Absent seizures in fact."
My heart dropped, then Ponyboy said something I'll never forget.
"Why are you sorry? He said, almost angrily, "I don't care that my daughter has epilepsy, because you know what? So does my wife and she has lived a full, rich life. That means Leah can too.
The doctor looked a little surprised, "Yes, but there are certain things that she won't be able to do and a lot of medical expenses."
"So?" He said, "I don't care. I'd do anything for my family. Money is the least of my worries."
Before the doctor could even dismiss us, Pony grabbed me by the arm and the three of us walked out of the doctor.
I couldn't believe Pony just stood up for Leah like that. But then again, it was Pony. He wasn't kidding when he said he'd do anything for his family.
"Pony?" I say as we get into the car, "I love you."
Ponyboy smiles and kisses me, "I love you too, Y/N."

A/N:
November is Epilepsy Awareness Month which is why I chose to discuss epilepsy a little in it. As someone who has epilepsy, I have seen firsthand the misconceptions about it, the pity, I've seen it all. What most people don't know is that epilepsy runs on a very high spectrum. There's so many different types of seizures, symptoms and so on. Some people even have more than one type of seizure, like me. I have absence and focal seizures.
If you would like to learn more about epilepsy, you can go searching for foundations in your local area. For me, that would be the Epilepsy Foundation Of Central South Texas. There is so much you can learn and it really is an interesting topic and worth the time.

Have a lovely day and remember to stay gold!
