It was cold and wet outside as you passed the DX on your way home. You waved to Soda and Steve, telling them you'd see them later.
You didn't quite know what to do. Your parents had just kicked you out and you didn't have a home. Darry always said that you could come live in the Curtis house but something about that seemed s weird. Not the thought or idea, in fact it sounded nice, but that was their house. Darry already worked hard enough. By staying and living with them, it'd only cause Darry more stress and longer hours doing work. You couldn't do that to him.
You contemplated staying at the lot with Johnny, who you regularly visited, but you weren't sure today. You had to come up with something.
By the time you reached the street the Curtis house was on and the Lot, you'd already made up your mind that you'd be sleeping in the lot. At least for today.
Johnny was sitting all alone on a small, flat rock, perfect for his size, as he warmed up his hands. How he was able to start a big warm fire in this weather, you'll never know.
"Hey Johnny." You said quietly, taking a seat on the wet ground, "how'd you get this fire going?"
Johnny shrugged and laughed, "I have no idea. I guess some of the wood didn't get super wet but still, that rain was pretty intense."
You nodded, recalling earlier when lightning knocked out the power in your school for half the day.
"You gonna head home soon?" Johnny asked, "it's almost dinner time."
You didn't want to tell him that you got kicked out, mainly because you didn't want to get more people involved in your situation. Also, it was Johnny. You knew he'd worry about you.
"It's ok," You said, "I can stay here a little longer."
Johnny looked at you and laughed in disbelief, "Really? You want to stay out here? In the rain and cold?"
You nodded, "yes."
It felt wrong lying to such a good friend like Johnny. It almost felt like you were betraying him a way because you guys told each other everything. Johnny trusted you with his feelings and so did you.
"Okay I lied," you said, leaning back against a log.
Johnny looked confused but allowed you to continue.
"My parents kicked me out this morning and I have no where to go."
Johnny was silent for a minute, then said, "Oh Y/N I'm so sorry."
You shrugged as he pulled you into a hug. He then took off his Jean jacket and wrapped it around you.
"Won't you be cold?" I asked.
"Yeah, but as long as I'm with you I know I'll be ok."
A very cheesy line, but you couldn't help but smile. Johnny truly looked out for you. He really did care about everything you had to say. He really was the best friend anyone could ask for.
That night, the two of you fell asleep, the remains of the fire heating you up. And the warmth of each other's body made your heart beat a little better.A/N:
