It had been over 2 months already since that first day up on the school roof where you met Kenma. You couldn't believe how much time had flown by. Mid-terms were over before you knew it and now the dreaded finals were approaching.
You had settled into a nice little routine with your new friends, spending half your time with the girls and the rest with Kenma when he wasn't too busy with practice.
The week before exams all club activities, including Volleyball, were cancelled so the students could study. (Yui complained like crazy that she was bored without her Light Music Club, and you tried to tell her she should channel that energy into studying, but that advice simply fell on deaf ears.) But that didn't stop Kuroo trying to coax Kenma out of his house on a weekend to perfect his receives.
You'd been hanging out at Kenma's house most Saturdays especially on the run up to the exams to study together. He really needed help with Japanese and Social Studies but was surprisingly good at Math and helped you wrap your head around a particularly hard algebra equation you were struggling with.
Kuroo would join you occasionally for a game night when he wasn't out with the other second years, but you mostly only heard from him by messages on WhatsApp. He'd send you memes every other day which always made you laugh, once even spitting your drink out across the roof at lunch making you choke and splutter. Kenma had to pat you on the back as you coughed the liquid out of your lungs.
You felt much more comfortable around the boys now, but whenever Kuroo was physically in the same room as you, you still got butterflies in your stomach. You told yourself it was only because he was so good looking, and honestly, he still intimidated you a little bit. It's not like you had a crush on him or anything. Right?
It was on a particularly warm Thursday afternoon that you voiced this concern to the girls after school as you were leaving the classroom.
"Maybe you do have a crush on him." Hana stated simply as she opened the door.
"We should totally test this theory! Why don't you ask him out on a date?!" Yui gushed excitedly, a little too loudly.
"Shhh!" You tried to urge her to be quiet, but it was too late.
"Ask who on a date?" Said a sly deep voice to your right. It was Kuroo, leaning against the wall in his usual spot.
You internally cringed and brought your bag up to cover your chest. You'd had to give in and stop wearing your oversized jumper. Switching to your summer uniform meant wearing the tight white shirts your mum bought and the thin white fabric was stretched across your chest making you extra self-conscious knowing your bra would be visible underneath.
"Nobody!" You blurted out quickly sending a look at Yui to please keep her mouth shut.
She got the message and made a show of zipping her lips closed with her finger and throwing away an invisible key.
"Didn't sound like nobody to me." He said getting closer, that cocky grin fixed on his beautiful face.
Your heart began to pound in your chest as he stepped up to you, and you did the only thing you could think of to diffuse the situation. You punched him in the ribs, a habit you'd picked up from Kenma, but you'd only ever used this tactic when playing games with him at Kenma's house, never at school.
He folded over as usual pretending it had hurt but laughing as he did, you however were mortified at displaying such familiarity with an upperclassman in public and clapped your hands over your mouth. Your bag fell to the floor without your hands to support it and Kuroo's face was now level with your ample chest which was fighting its buttoned restraints as Kenma walked out of the classroom.
