The last few days of school flew by in a haze. Everyone's minds were occupied with plans for the summer. Yui was going away with her family to Hawaii and Hana had gotten a part time job at a coffee shop near her house so was busy most evenings and weekends.
The boys were at practice almost every day because they would be going to a training camp just before the August Prefectural Qualifying Rounds and with Kuroo's arm on the mend he wanted to catch up on all the practice he'd missed.
With everyone so busy, you had very little social interaction for the first week. You spent a lot of your time reading or playing games on the second-hand console you'd bought for yourself. You'd got it with some of the savings you had so you could try and level up before the next game night with Kenma. You hoped he'd be impressed when he saw how much your skills had improved. Just thinking about this made you smile.
One thing that was bothering you though was that Kuroo hadn't said anything further about the beach date he'd mentioned. You knew he was busy with volleyball practice, and the whole idea of going on a date with him still terrified you, but it upset you that he hadn't at least messaged you to arrange a date for it. You decided you'd be proactive and text him.
Y/N
18.03: Hey, are we still going to the beach this summer? I did buy a costume especially for the occasion. It would be a shame to waste it. X
You cringed internally at your pathetic attempt at flirting.
Kuroo
18.15: Hey princess, of course we are! Don't worry, I haven't forgotten. I can't wait to see you wearing it! ;-) I was waiting for my arm to get better. Now that it is.... What do you say to this Sunday?
Y/N
18.16: Sunday is OK with me. :-)
Kuroo
18.16: Great! I'll come pick you up in the morning. Be ready for 10?
Y/N
18.17: Ok I'm looking forward to it. :-) X
Kuroo
18.17: Me too. X
You were both pleased and extremely nervous at the same time. You were proud of yourself for managing to message the boy, but now the prospect of actually having to go on a date with him, and in only two days' time, was making you feel nauseous.
You went over to your wardrobe and pulled out the bikini again. What were you supposed to wear with it? It's not like you'd be wearing just this all day. You'd need an outfit to go with it.
You ransacked every draw in your room and pulled out a nice pale blue blouse and a pair of rather short denim shorts you had never worn before because they made you self-conscious beyond belief. Maybe it was just the confidence boost from initiating that conversation with Kuroo, but you decided you'd be bold and wear them. You borrowed your mum's broad rimmed beach hat that was also cream coloured and opted for a small backpack that would fit your towel and some other necessities in. You also found a kimono style jacket your mum had that matched the hat and decided to borrow that too.
Happy with your wardrobe choice you now felt a bit more at ease about the whole thing. But it didn't make the nerves dissipate entirely.

Sunday arrived in the blink of an eye. Kenma had cancelled your game night with him on Saturday, he'd said something had come up, but hadn't said what. You were a bit sad that you still hadn't seen him since the holidays started, but it wasn't like him to cancel unless it was important, so you didn't pry.
You put on the outfit you'd picked out, smoothed out your hair as best you could, leaving it down under the hat, and didn't bother with any makeup. You were sure you'd only look ridiculous if it got wet and ran down your face.
Bag packed with the essentials for a beach trip you sat nervously awaiting Kuroo's arrival.
10am came and went, you were sat on the sofa tapping your foot. 10 minutes late wasn't such a big deal.
20 minutes late and you were starting to wonder if you should message him and see if he was at least on his way.
30 minutes late, you decided to send the message asking if everything was ok.
40 minutes late, he still hadn't read your message. Now you were getting angry. What the hell was he doing to make him this late? Had he slept in?
45 minutes had passed now and finally there was a knock at the door. You were so sure by this point that he wasn't coming, the noise actually made you jump.
You got up and went to answer the door with a bit of a scowl on your face.
Standing on the doorstep was a grinning Kuroo in red shorts and a black t-shirt, a sports bag thrown over his shoulder.
"You're late." You stated, not bothering to hide the annoyance in your voice.
Kuroo rubbed the back of his head, but the smile never faltered on his face. "Yeah, sorry about that, there was an emergency team meeting this morning. It took longer than I thought it would. Are you ready?"
You nodded, but the frown on your face didn't fade until you were halfway to the train station. What kind of 'emergency' could there possibly be in a volleyball club? You were starting to think he used volleyball as an excuse for everything and that perhaps he had actually just slept in but didn't want to tell you.
On the train, Kuroo sat next to you and you talked about their latest practice match. They'd had a meet up with another school from the Fukurodani Academy Group earlier that week and had 'wiped the floor with them' apparently thanks to Kenma once again getting to play the setter.
The guy who he'd fought with, Yamamoto, hadn't caused any trouble this time. In fact, according to Kuroo, Yamamoto seemed to be warming up to Kemna a bit more after that practice match.
"I think he's starting to appreciate that although they have different ways of doing things, they both want to win more than anything else."
You really hoped that he wasn't going to talk about volleyball the whole date. Not that you minded volleyball, but you didn't really want it to be the only topic of conversation you had with Kuroo. How were you supposed to get to know him better if all you ever talked about was Kenma and volleyball?
