Chapter 11:

Finally, the Exams are Over

Despite waking up early, Futarou, Kaikane, and the Quints were still rather nervous. They had decided to use their time to briefly review a few questions that Futarou had asked on the fly. They had earned some curious looks from other students as they walked, but they didn't really pay them any mind. They just continued on their way, answering the questions the smartest boy in their class asked of them, ensuring that they had indeed paid attention to his teachings.

"Alright then, final questions before we all break to our respective classes. Ichika, what's the proper way to calculate momentum?"

"You use the equation P=MV where P stands for Momentum, M equals Mass and V equals velocity."

"That's right! Yotsuba, Sociology is the study of what?"

"The aspect of human society, including family, gender, ethnic relations, aging, education, and population among many others." she cheerfully replied, earning a smile from the young man.

"Excellent, let's keep it moving then. Miku, what was Ishikawa Goemon known for doing?"

"Stealing from the rich and giving it to the poor, he was known as the Gentleman Thief. He was executed for his crimes by being boiled to death alongside his son. He held him up to prevent him from dying but then held him down under the water to kill him as quickly as possible."

"Nice! Itsuki I have one for you as well, what is dihydrogen monoxide and how is it formulated?"

"Really? That's a little easy considering the other questions you asked," she replied, earning a glare from him. She froze slightly, clearing her throat. "Dihydrogen Monoxide is the compound name for water. It is formulated by using two hydrogen atoms and a single oxygen atom. Add one more oxygen atom and you get H202 which is the chemical makeup of Hydrogen Peroxide."

"Correct, Nino this one is for you. In the 18th century, which writer became famous for being a government agent and spy for the King?"

"Daniel Defoe, his famous work is Robinson Crusoe which is the world's second most translated book, being out beaten by the Christian Bible," she said, a proud look on her face.

"Alright, you're all ready. Those were the hardest questions from last year's finals and you were able to answer them with ease. But we have one more question for Kaikane here, you'll be dismissed when he answers it." Futarou said, making Kaikane sigh.

"I better brace myself, something tells me this isn't gonna be a Titanic question," he said, finishing the last of his Redbull. "Go for it."

"A plane is traveling due south. The wind is blowing at 30 degrees east of south at 50 miles an hour. If the plane's resultant speed due to the wind is 180 miles per hour, what is the plane's actual speed? You can round it to the nearest integer if you have to."

"Fuck me," he mumbled, reaching inside his backpack for a notebook. He snagged Itsuki's pen from her hand and clicked it, pressing the book against the wall as he wrote a formula. "Speed equals 180 cos 30= 155.88 degrees... if I round this number up then this becomes that, subtract this number here."

He continued writing out the solution, crossing out a few things and adding others before finally reaching his answer, handing Futarou the notebook for him to check. "There you go, the plane's actual speed is 135 miles per hour."

"I would have done this problem a bit differently but you got it correct nonetheless. I've done all I could, the rest is up to you. Midterms are about to start, don't let me down you guys." the mushroom-headed boy said, giving Kaikane his notebook back. He handed Itsuki her pen just as the bell started to ring.
