The bell of the book store rang as we walked inside.
My friend waved to her co-worker and we began to browse the aisles.
"So how long can you last without one?"
I walked slowly looking at each book as my finger brushed against the spines.
"A month and a bit at most. After that, I'm pretty fucked."
She hummed in response going to the other side of the bookshelf.
"Any ideas yet?"
I let out a sigh.
"I have some options but I'm not sure."
"Well remember I can get you a job here. Seriously it's so peaceful and barely anyone comes in at least when I'm working."
I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and taking it out I was met with a message from my boss.
"Hey Y/N I'm sure you heard about the incident. I'm so sorry but it doesn't look like the cafe will be repaired anytime soon so I'm going to have to let you go. I wish you the best in finding a new job and if there's anything I can do to help just let me know."
I felt incredibly awful for my boss. She had worked so hard to keep her cafe up and running. If I ever saw those bastards again I'd definitely make sure they pay.
Unlocking my phone I sent her a quick message.
"The boss texted looks like she'll be taking a break and I'm officially out of a job."
I picked up a book off the shelf and began to look at the cover.
"It's alright Y/N listen when my boss comes in I'll ask her alright?"
"Please don't. It's fine really I'll find a job just leave it be for now."
She sighed and I returned to looking back at the book in my hands.
"No longer human truly is an excellent book."
I could feel chills run through my body and I slowly turned my head back.
It seemed there was no God looking after me today.
"It is..." I replied quietly staring at the man behind me.
He gave me his usual smile and I placed the book back on the self.
"Still no luck I assume?"
"You are quite persistent do you know that? By chance have you been following me?"
The man shook his head in response.
"My you don't take me for a creep do you? I was simply enjoying some books."
I let out a sigh in return.
Hes right I was overthinking things. After all, he must've been in here before me considering the bell never went off.
"Alright alright, I'm sorry," I said raising my hands in defence.
He smiled in response.
"But no I haven't had any luck. Don't you have important intelligent people things to be doing?"
He chuckled at my statement and leaned against the bookshelf.
"If you aren't interested in serving customers directly why not try bartending. It seems I'm in need of one of those."
I crossed my arms and rose an eyebrow.
"I have no experience serving drinks or making them."
"That's fine I can have someone train you."
I bit down on my lip.
He was way too persistent, but he did say I wouldn't have to do something like Swindler.
"Why me?"
His smile was soft as he gazed at me.
"It's a secret."
I blinked a few times in response before looking at him annoyed.
"How lovely."
"So what do you say?"
"Y/N!!"
My friend popped out from behind the bookshelf and I felt my heart skip a beat.
Shit, I forgot she was here.
"Oh, whos that."
She came up beside me with a big smile on her face.
"Hi, I'm Y/N friend!"
He smiled politely in return.
"Oh, a friend is that so? Maybe you can help me in convincing her to take a job."
"WHAT!" She turned to look at me with a scowl.
"Hes been offering you a job and you haven't taken it?! Idiot!!"
"Listen...—"
"No, you listen! It'll take you forever to find a job just accept it! You can always quit later and look for a new job in the process." She said whispering the last part.
She had a point.
I could take the job for now and look for another in the process so at least I'd have some income to pay my bills.
"Fine. Fine, I give up. When do I start?"
His smile grew even larger and he clapped his hands together.
"Tonight!"
