Chapter 6 - Don't Forget Your Manners

Madeline's P.O.V

"Addie, hurry up!" I whisper-shouted to my sister.

Dragging her feet, she quickened her pace the tiniest bit. Being the nice twin I was, I waited for her until she caught up to me.

"1. You walk too fast, 2. I don't want to be here right now," Adeline argued, "3. We just came back from a 4-hour journey, how are you so energetic?"

"You know me, sister, I've got an endless supply of energy. Also, I've always wanted to go to the famous Royal Gardens of Troacia"

She shook her head, exasperated.

"I don't see what's special about—"

"Look! It's Princess Aurora and...a Prince. I don't know who he is."

Just as I said it, they turned and noticed us. Aurora ran up to us, leaving the Prince to catch up.

"Hello!" She said and did a small curtsy.

We did the same.

"Who's that?" I asked, gesturing to the Prince who was out of ear-shot.

"Oh that's Prince Gavin," Aurora replied.

"Ooh, are you planning on making him your escort?"

"Shh!" She quickly turned around to make sure he couldn't hear us, "No...well, I suppose maybe a little bit, but not really."

I could tell from her flustered face that it was a little bit more than 'maybe a little bit'.

"Alright then, I'll leave you two alone, see you!" I said before dragging my sister and running off.

Gavin's P.O.V

Madeline said something to Aurora that I couldn't quite make out and ran off with her sister, and left us feeling very awkward.

I decided to try and break the silence.

"So, who's your escort for the ball?"

"Oh, w-well I don't actually have one yet.."

I raised my eyebrows surprised, as most people should have their escorts by now. Except me of course, I just didn't know who to ask.

"Do you want to be my partner?" I blurted, before I even realised it.

"You haven't found one yet?" She asked.

I shook my head.

"Well, then I'd love to!"

Aurora's P.O.V

I told Trinity that Gavin is my escort.

"That's good," She said, nodding approvingly, "Have you given his tailor the textile sample of your dress?"

"Oh no! I forgot."

She sighed, "Of course you did." She spoke in an I-knew-this-would-happen tone.

I had totally forgotten that partners in the Ball had to have matching outfits. Usually, the princess picks a dress and the prince's tailor has to make a suit to match the dress.

"Here take this," Trinity handed me a sample of the fabric that was used to make my dress.

"Go knock on the room next to the fitting room and you'll find Gavin's family tailor, Wendy, there. Give this to her and tell her that you're Gavin's partner and that you need her to make a matching suit. Oh and also don't forget your manners. Got it?"

"Yes, ma'am." I mockingly wiped sweat off my forehead because of the long instructions she gave.

How Trinity knows the names of all the tailors of every single royal family attending the ball, I will never know.

I stood in front of the door which Trinity had instructed me to go to. I held the piece of fabric in one hand and knocked with the other.

The noise of a sewing machine stopped and a woman answered the door. She had wavy blonde hair and glasses pushed up just above her forehead, which she brought to her eyes to have a closer look at me.

"Well, hello there, who is this?"

I curtsied, "I'm Princess Aurora, it's lovely to meet you."

"Oh, dear me! You're from the family who's hosting the ball! Do come in."

I followed her inside the room.

"So, to what do I owe this pleasure, Princess Aurora?"

"Oh no, just Aurora is fine." I said kindly, "Prince Gavin is my escort for the Ball and I have brought a sample of the fabric of my dress, so please could make a matching suit?"

"Oh my, well Gavin is lucky isn't he? I'll tell him to treat you well and yes, of course I'll make the suit, it'll be an honour," She rushed excitedly.

I laughed, "Thank you ever so much!"

See, I never forget my manners.
