Chapter 16

Next morning, she woke up before him and got prepared for work. A lot has changed in the last 2 days. Today she was going to see if Erwin was right and whether she could continue in her job or not.
She went to the kitchen to find Mr. Smith drinking his coffee.
"Good morning, sir."
"Good morning, young lady."
She made tea and sat with him in silence.
"I'm sorry if any of my words caused any disturbance to you yesterday."
She shook her head. "It's ok. It's a weird situation anyways."
"So what's with you and Erwin?"
She looked at him, wishing she had the answer.
"I don't know. 2 days ago, I was going to resign. That's why I came here in the first place, but then I found Erwin ill."
"So that's why you stayed the first night."
"Yes." She nodded.
"What about last night?"
He was really asking her hard questions. She wished she could tell him to ask his son.
"I don't know. After he dropped me, I thought he left but then he knocked on my door, and asked me to come back."
"And you did."
"I did." She said quietly.
"Why? I was with him if he needed anything."
She sighed. "Because he asked me? I guess."
"And now what?" He said and she looked at him, that was the very question she was avoiding. Luckily Erwin woke up and joined him.
He greeted them. It was a very tense atmosphere.
"How are you now?" Mr. Smith said.
"I've been better."
"You shouldn't go." (Y/n) repeated her words from yesterday again.
"I will try and leave early." Erwin said.
"I'll go now." (Y/n) announced.
"We'll go together." Erwin said.
"No, it's better if I go by myself. You should drive Mr. Smith to the train station."
She went to get her bag and left.

When she arrived at work, Sasha hugged her tightly.
"Oh" (y/n) was surprised.
"I'm sorry (y/n). We all are."
"It's ok, Sash. I'm the one who has to be."
"We are past this now." Nanaba said and tapped (y/n)'s shoulder.
Then Eren came and apologized to her for yelling at her.
"It's ok, Eren. Thank you." She smiled at them.
She didn't expect that, but it was nice.

Erwin arrived after her by about an hour. He found her joking with Jean and Marco about something. He greeted them and went to his office.

The day went well for (y/n). She felt that everything was going to be ok. All the tension of the past days was going away.

At noon, Erwin's temperature was high again. So Mike was going to take him home.

"Dad told me about Erwin's cold." Eren said.
"He seems so tired." Armin said with sympathy.
"Dad said it is just a fever. But the interesting thing was that there was a woman with Erwin." Eren said, like a middle school boy.
(Y/n) held her breath. 'Act normal, act normal'
"Really? Who is she?" Nanaba said. "He hasn't dated in a decade." They laughed.
"I don't know. But good for him." Eren replied.
'Thank god I didn't come with him in the morning!'

After a while she sent him a text to check on him.
