Nick's POV
Broken. I'd never seen a person so broken before.
My heart clenched as I lay on the bed the next morning staring at the girl who broke down the night before. She was still wrapped up in my arms and I never wanted her to leave but I knew that as soon as she woke up the walls would go up and we'd never talk of this again.
If only it didn't have to be that way.
Frankie's POV
I'd been awake for an hour now.
I was warm and didn't want to move.
He still had his tight but comforting hold on me, I could tell he was awake and was slightly confused as to why he hadn't untangled us before I woke up.
I decided that I didn't want to just push this aside, that I didn't want to be strong anymore, that the walls I built would be broken forever when it came to him.
"Thank you" I whispered out into the stilling silence
"What for?" He asked back
"Everything. For everything, you did last night. For holding me when I needed it the most. For breaking down my walls and being the one person, I've ever been able to cry in front of." I got everything off of my chest so that I wouldn't talk myself out of it.
"Anytime Frankie, I mean it," he said into my hair before giving it a kiss like he did the previous night.
I tightened my hold on him as we lay there in the peace and quiet.
Another hour passed and not a word was uttered. Suddenly the sound of little feet came from the hallway and then the door handle jiggled before a tiny little boy popped his head in the doorway.
"Good morning" He mumbled whilst walking closer to the bed, making me and Nick slowly untangle ourselves.
He got to Nicholas's side and tried to climb up but failed miserably, a frown sliding onto his face, the both of us chuckled and Nick reached his hands under Sebs armpits before heaving him onto the bed and placing him between us.
"You okay bud?" Nick asked whilst I stroked his floppy head of hair.
"Yes, awe you?" He sounded so grown up when he wanted to.
"We are all good, little man" I chuckled, he snuggled into my side, my fingers still running through his hair.
"I'm tired" He mumbled
"The go back to sleep, it's a Friday so we don't have anything to do for another 2/3 more hours" By the time I had finished my sentence his soft snores had already filled the room.
It was only 8 am and we didn't have to be at our school for the weekly check-ups until 12 o'clock.
I looked over to Nick to see that he was staring down at the two of us with a content smile across his face.
"What are you smiling about?" I squinted my eyes at him
"You" His short reply got me curious
"Why?" I questioned wanting to get answers from him
"Because I never thought I'd see the day that Frankie Moon would be lying in bed with me, all snuggled up with the little boy who was once 'just a project'" His reply stunned me, was he really that shocked by the situation?
"Well, things change. People change" Was my vague reply
"Indeed, they do"
3 hours later
We all got out of bed at 10 am which was about 2 hours ago. It had taken a whole hour for us to get the children ready and then get ourselves ready for the day ahead, but we were slowly getting the hang of things.
At the moment we were sat down eating the breakfast that Nicholas cooked us, it consisted of Weetabix soaked in warm milk and a little sprinkle of sugar for Sebastian since that was his favourite, a slice of toast cut up into little strips with a tad of butter on for Ariel since she was just starting to be weaned from the bottle to solid foods, a bacon sandwich with ketchup and salad cream for Nick, and then two buttered crumpets for me. We all had a glass of apple juice in front of us, apart from Ariel since she wasn't allowed drinks that had a lot of sugars in at her young age.
"Once you've finished you're Weetabix you need to go and put your shoes and coat on like a good boy, okay Seb?" He had Velcro shoes so they were easy for him to put on by himself, I think we should save the laces until he's at least 5 or 6.
"Okay" He answered with a mouthful of food
"No talking with your mouth full, Sebastian" Nick scolded before taking a massive bite out of his sandwich.
"Sowy" He mumbled, finishing the last bite of his Weetabix before running off to put his shoes on
"I'm gonna get Ariel in her coat and shoes since we are both finished." I stood up reaching for Ariel who already had her arms up in the air
"Okay, I'll be out in a bit." He replied
"Come on sweetheart let's get you ready." I picked her up and placed her on my hip before walking in the direction of where Seb ran off to.
I saw him sitting on the stairs looking down at his shoes quite confused.
"What's wrong, mate?" I grabbed the two little one's coats and hung them on the bannister.
"I don't know which way wound they go" He grumbled
"I'll help you after I've got Ari ready, okay?" I placed her down on a chair that was in the hallway, but still making sure had a hold of her, I crouched down picked up one of her shoes and placed it on the right foot, repeating this process for the left foot as well.
"I'll help you bud since Frankie is busy" A voice called from further down the hallway as footsteps grew louder
"Thank you" I whispered as he walked past me
"No worries" He leaned down and pressed his lips to the top of my head catching me off guard.
Once the action had sunk in a smile grew on my face as I carried on getting Ariel ready. Oh, this was gonna be a confusing year.
"Everyone ready?" I asked after we'd all finished getting our shoes and coats on.
"Yeah" Nick called out
"wes" Seb answered
Ariel gargled out what she thought was the right reply, causing us all to laugh at her making her smile in the process.
