YOU'RE IN

I was hunched over my trig textbook, trying to work out the problems I couldn't get to last night. Beside me, my brother was drawing a makeshift map of the Welton grounds. His voice booming in my ear was starting to annoy me, as the frustration of trigonometry loomed over me.

"You're not listening." Neil spoke, nudging me. I eyed him, trying my best to not roll my eyes.

"Nope. Problem with that?" I asked my voice sharp. My eyes locked on my brothers. The boys voices dried out as they listened in. Neil shook his head, turning back to the boys. I let out a small sigh, feeling bad for giving him attitude. I stared down at the blank paper.

"Any questions? Look, you follow the stream to the waterfall. It's right there. It's gotta be like that." My brother spoke, quieter this time. I rested my head on my hand, letting out a small groan.

"I don't know. It's starting to sound
dangerous." Cameron whispered.

"Oh. Why don't you just stay home?" Charlie retorted. Still trying to get the redhead to chicken out.

"Yeah, please, I don't want to hear you whine," I chimed in. Cameron scoffed. I shrugged, setting my pencil down. "Meeks do you have the trig answers, I'm going to blow up if I don't get this done." Meeks nodded, pulling a notebook out from his bag.

"We can tell." Knox chuckled, Ruby hitting the back of his head lightly. I narrowed my eyes dangerously at Knox before snatching the notebook from Meeks.

"For God's sake, stop chattering and sit
down!" Mr. McAllister hollered to us. Motioning for Pitts and Knox to sit down. Neil stood up and made his way to Todd, who sat by himself at a separate table. This left room for Charlie to slide into the spot next to me. I offered him a quick smile before returning to my work.

I was hastily copying Meeks paper, trying to get it done before the bell rang and it was due.

"You okay?" He whispered into my ear, his breath tickling the nape of my neck. I swallowed, my eyes trained on my paper.

"Uh, yeah." I gnawed on my lip. He continued to eye me as I scribbled the last of the answers down.

"Hey! Guys." Neil whisper yelled, sitting down. "Is it okay if Todd doesn't read at the meeting?" The boys were silent, slightly angering me. They all looked like blubbering fish, unsure of what to say.

"Yes of course," I smiled, handing Meeks his notebook back. Ruby also nodded, obviously feeling much more sympathetic then the guys. Todd was shy, and it was something I admired about him because deep down I knew there was lion ready to roar. I nudged Charlie. He looked at me, confusion on his face. I nodded with my head to the boy who sat a couple tables away, his face stuffed in a book. His eyes lit up once he realized what I meant.
