Chapter 8

Holly's POV

I went to my first period and was nervous because I didn't want the teacher asking me what happened. I just hid my cheek with my hand and walked over to Elizabeth. We start talking as soon as I sat down, and I flinched when Elizabeth asked, "Holly, what happened to your cheek?" I was tired of hiding it, so I snapped, "My dad hit me twice in the face, okay?!" Elizabeth stared at me with wide eyes throughout class, which the teacher made a free period. After class, Elizabeth approached me and announced, "I'm going to tell Charlie what happened. Maybe he can help you." No!" I wailed, but it was to late. The bell had rung and Elizabeth was already halfway down the hall.

Charlie's POV

I walked down the hall and saw Elizabeth running towards me. "Hey, Elly," I teased. "I told you not to call me that," Elizabeth hissed before calming down in an instant. "Anyway, I wanted to tell you something." "What?" I asked, then looked behind her. Holly was running to us, holding her bruised cheek. "You know what happened to Holly's cheek?" Elizabeth asked. "No," I replied, then asked, "What?" "Well," she began, but was stopped by Holly. "Elizabeth, if you tell him what happened, I'll tell the boy who you like that you like him." Holly said very loudly. She blushed, and Holly smirked, but then sighed. I was confused, but shocked when Elizabeth said, "Her dad hit her in the face." Holly looked angry as Elizabeth ran off. I looked at Holly. "What? Your dad...hit you?" Holly grew misty eyes and nodded. "Well, if he does it again, I'll take care of him." "But, he's my dad," Holly objected. "Well, he's dumb," I said, then added quickly, "Sorry, but it's true. That's plain child abuse! Tell me if anything happens, and I'll give him a piece of my mind!"
