The Catch Up

~THE NEXT DAY~
                               October•13•1990

I sat up, rubbed my eyes then walked in the bathroom and took a shower and brush my teeth. After that I wore this outfit

I grabbed my keys, 50 dollars and I walked downstairs to see my mom, my dad and Day-Day downstairs in the kitchen and the living room.

"Bye flinstones I'm going to catch up with a friend"
Day-Day: "Bye biscuit head"
"Shut up bald headed rat"

Mom: "Hey! Hey! Hey calm down guys, Aaliyah why won't you come eat breakfast with us?"
"Well were going to McDonald's to eat and talk so I'll be okay, I gotta go love you guys!"

Mom: "We love you too!"
I walked out the house and walked to the McDonald's me and Bobby are supposed to meet at.

I walked in and looked around then I saw Bobby playing on a block game. I creeped up behind him.

"ROAR"
Bobby: "Damn. Yo childish ass still doing this shit"
"At least my momma knees ain't ashy and I can control my hormones"

Bobby: "Well damn okay I see you"
He stood up and examined me while I did the same to him

Bobby: "Wow you look amazing"
"Thanks, you too"
We gave each other big hugs, we haven't seen each other in about 2 years

"How's that music life treating ya?"
I sat down and so did he

Bobby: "It's going great, Don't Be Cruel hit the charts and I'm doing well with the producers and songwriters"
"That's great"

The more I looked at him the harder I smiled
Bobby: "Wow, it's amazing"
"What is?"
Bobby: "Your smile, it's magical"

I looked down in shyness
"Thanks, so um you and New Edition..."
I looked up at him

He took a sip of his lemonade
Bobby: "What about me and New Edition?"
"I mean there's all those rumors out there.."

He laughed nervously and hesitantly thought about what he should say
Bobby: "Ahehe um..how should I say this.."
He took another sip of his lemonade

Bobby: "Uh..New Edition is on hiatus right now. Yeah put it that way"

It went silent for a minute
"Well um, I'm gonna go order some food do you want anything?"
Bobby: "Yeah I'll take a Big Mac, 10 piece chicken nugget and a large fry"

"Damn you big"
Bobby: "Whatever"

I walked up to the counter and started ordering our food

Worker: "Hi welcome to McDonald's, may I take your order?"
"I would like a Big Mac, 10 piece chicken nuggets, a large fry. Then I want a 10 piece chicken nugget and a medium fry"

Worker: "You know, you look really familiar and so does your date"
"Oh no no this isn't a date, we're just childhood friends catching up, we haven't seen each other in 2 years"

Worker: "Oh I know you! Your Aaliyah! And he's...Bobby Brown, right?"
I laughed nervously

"Yeah, please, please, please don't tell anyone we're here"
Worker: "Don't worry girl, I got y'all back"
"Thank you so much"

Worker: "Yeah girl don worry, okay so your total is $47.92"
I handed her a 50 dollar bill and took the tray with the food on it

"Keep the change"
I winked at her and I walked back to our table

"Here you go"
I set his food in front of him and sat down

Bobby: "Thanks Babygirl, I own you one"
I sat down and opened my chicken nugget box and bit into a nugget

"The cash register lady recognized us"
I said while eating a fry

Bobby: "Oh, really?"
"Yeah, she said she won't tell anyone we're here so we have nothing to worry about"
Bobby: "That's good, you know, I heard that you can sing like an angel but I've never ever I mean never hear you sing before"

"Well that sucks, I guess you'll never get to hear me sing"
Bobby: "Oh come on Babygirl, pleaseeeeee?"
"Uh-uh"

I was real serious in the face but on the inside, I was die laughing

Bobby: "Babygirl.."
He looked at me with an annoyed face
"Nope"

That man was eating like ain't never ate in his life
"Yo greedy ass"
Bobby: "You need to eat to live"
"Then why you so skinny then?"

Bobby: "You ready to go?"
"Yeah, can you go get to-go boxes?"
Bobby: "Sure"

He walked away and I started stacking the food and getting it ready to go in the boxes and in the bags

He came back, gave be the boxes and bags. I finished packing the food up and we walked out the McDonald's then we started walking to my house.
