~THE NEXT DAY~
October•16•1990

I laid there thinking about what's been happening in the passed week. I realized I needed something to take my mind off of what has happened.

I got up, went to the bathroom and took a shower then brushed my teeth. After that I put on this outfit

I walked downstairs and outside then started walking to school

I walked downstairs and outside then started walking to school.

Countess wasn't coming to school today because she was grounded for getting detention too often.

I looked around in cautiousness then I saw Tupac jogging his way over to me. I sighed in stress and continued to walk.

Tupac: "Wassup Babygirl"
"Please, don't call me Babygirl"
Tupac: "Why you so angry? You must not got no man"

I stopped walking and looked at him in confusion and frustration

"What are you talking about? That is my business and my decision if I want to tell someone that"
Tupac: "Ight! Ight Damn. Chill out"

It went silent for a minute

Tupac: Soooo, wheres Countess?"
"She's grounded because she's been in detention for a while"
Tupac: "Damn..you heard about the basketball tryouts?"

"Please stop talking to me. I have enough think on my mind right now"

We started walking again until we made it to the school. I walked to my locker and started taking my book out my locker until someone distracted me.

Larenz: "Wassup cutie?"

Larenz Tate. He's this boy that has always been hitting on me since the 1st grade and he's been getting on my LAST nerve. He's my next door neighbor and always is bothering me. He also stutters when he's nervous which is funny to me.

"Leave me alone Larenz I'm not in the mood today"
Larenz: "Okay. So how's it going? I heard about your brother. I'm sorry about that"

"It's- it's not even that serious okay?"

Laren: "Listen. If you ever need a shoulder to cry on. I'm here"
"Okay, thanks I guess"

Larenz: "Have you heard about the dance this Saturday night? I know I'm just your n-next door neighbor and that I might not be that h-handsome to you, but, w-well, you wouldn't want to g-go to the dance with me. Would you?"

He started fidgeting with his finger in shyness. I started laughing but keeping it on the down low.

"Uh...sorry, Larenz. I mean, your great and everything but it's just...I don't think of you as...a guy"
Larenz: "Then what do you think of me as?"
"More like a, friend..."

Larenz: "But I can be more than a friend"

He was so happy when he said that. Which almost made me cry because, I don't feel the same way about him as he does about me

"Larenz, no offense but...I just don't feel the same way"
Larenz: "Then what's the big deal?"
"Look, maybe we can go out then"

Larenz: "Well, maybe then I'll be busy"
He stormed off into the distance. I shook my head in disappointment. I grabbed my books and walked to the principals office.

"Principal Jackée?"
Principal Jackée: "Oh hello Aaliyah. That boy Larenz hitting on you again?"

"Yeah. But that's not what I'm here for"
Principal Jackée: "What's up hun?"
"See, I was wondering when the basketball tryouts start"

Principal Jackée: "Well, they started today after school at 3:00PM, are you trying out?"
"Yeah, my dad watches a lot of basketball and I practice it a lot and he coaches me"

Principal Jackée: "Well that's great honey! I bet you'll do great"
"Thanks principal Jackée"

That's our principal. Principal Jackée, she's amazing. Always happy, nice, sweet and funny.

I started walking to my class which is math. I walked in and sat down in my chair and waited for class to start.

~AFTER SCHOOL~

I walked home and ran upstairs to my room then started to get changed for the basketball tryouts.

I packed my bag with a hairbrush, deodorant, extra pair of sneakers, 2 water bottles, and perfume.

I walked in my moms room to see her laying down and crying.

"Mom?"
Mom: "Yes Babygirl?"
"I'm gonna go to school for basketball tryouts. I'll be back in about 1 or 2 hours"
Mom: "Okay baby, love you"
"Love you too"
