Name Calling

Janets POV
               ~ICE CUBE'S FUNERAL~
                            October•17•1990

I walked to Ice Cubes room to see his mom and a man talking

"Excuse me um...is that what he's wearing?"
Head Usher: "We picked out his best suit"
"What about the shoes?"

I walked to the closet and picked out his favorite black Jordan's

Maleen: "He hardly ever wore those"
"Well that's because he didn't want to scuff em. They were his favorites"

Head Usher: "I'm not sure it's appropriate"
I sighed and walked back to his closet and dug around to get his favorite tie

"Okay, then what about this? Georgia Tech colors"
I laid the tie on the bed to see it coordinate with the outfit

Mayleen: "He sent out his first application to college last week-"

She started to tear up and catch her breath
Mayleen: "He was so nervous honestly"
"I'm sorry, I'll get you a glass of water"

I walked to the kitchen and filled up the cup with water. I saw Cubes little sister struggling with the trash

"Here, let me do that. Can you take this to your aunt?"
We exchanged and I took the trash out to the back were I saw a bouquet of flowers with a note. I picked up the note and it read

"To the Dead Fest club"
I looked around and opened the note

"Friends don't matter if your dead. So pick one of them to die instead"

I turned the note over and it had more writing on the back

"You have until 7 PM No Cops. Snitches Die!"

I leaned against the wall in sadness. Tupac walked over

Tupac: "How you holding up?"
"A catholic mass? A stuffy suit? This is all wrong"
Tupac: "His family is doing their best"

"Cube's been a latchkey kid since grade school. That's why he acts so hard around everyone...but on the inside, he was the kindest person I ever knew"

Tupac: "Everybody grieves in their own way, Janet. We gotta let then do this the way they want to"

"But why about Cube? What about what Ice Cube wants?"

I walked away to the bathroom and started crying

                           ~AALIYAH'S POV~

We were leaving from the funeral and enjoying the breeze until we started talking about the situation again

Bobby: "Cube was one of us. We ain't gonna forget him"
"To be honest I was expecting the killer to show up and try to scare us"

Countess: "Maybe they did. I'm sure whoever it is ,is watching us and enjoying it. They're probably closer than we think"
Tupac: "Countess not right now-"

Janet: "Nah shes right"
Janet pulled out a card from her pocket and gave it to Bobby. He started reading it aloud so we could hear

Bobby: "Friends don't matter if your dead, so pick one of them to die instead"
Janet: "Theres more on the back"

Bobby: "You have until 7 PM. No Cops. Snitches die!"
"How long have you had this?"

Janet: "It came with those white lilies right before y'all showed up"
Countess: "Why not tell us earlier?"
Janet: "Because it was Cube's day. I don't wanna ruin that"

Bobby: "The killer wants us to choose who dies?"
"He's trying to turn ya against each other, but we can't let that happen. We gotta stick together, yall"

Countess: "Well if it's one of us doing this"
"One of us?"

Janet: "I know your not suggesting that I could've killed Cube"
Countess: "It's just a theory"

Janet: "Do you think that the killer could've done something like I don't know, slash Tupac's tire? Cause someone told me that Larenz did that"

Tupac: "Hold up, you did that? Oh hell naw this some bullshit"
Larenz: "I was trying to protect you guys. Aaliyah and I didn't want anyone following us. I am so sorry"

Janet: "My best friend is dead because of you!
"Look, fighting ain't gon bring Cube back, okay? Larenz didn't know what the killer was playing, Janet"

Tupac: "Knew enough to get out of Dodge before Hookman got gutted. You said you couldn't find him right Aaliyah?"

Larenz: "Because I went looking for Bobby. He just disappeared"
Bobby: "Because I was trying to help Janet, Countess and Tupac too. Don't try to pin this on me"

"I can't think of a way to square this without putting anybody at risk, so everyone. Call him and say my name"
Larenz: "Hell no!. Heelllll no! Hell to the naw!"
"Are you done?"

Larenz: "Hell no"
