Okay I'm really excited about this story just ask any of my friends. Enjoy!
Fall 1933
"Billings! Another year of the stiff backs!"
" I promise to be on my worst behaviour!"
" I expect no less." George threw his arm over Lem's shoulder. "Let's get this show started!"
They headed out of their dorm to get to the assembly hall.
As they neared the the assembly hall, the boisterous voices echoed around the walls. And once they entered, they found a room of chaos. Boys saying hello to each other, and laughing, groaning about the new school year and so much more.
someone rammed into his back. Lem turned around to face a mop of brown wavy hair. When the shorter boy looked up, Lem sucked in a deep breath.
It would be cliché to say that the world stopped, and all he could do was see this boy. And it wasn't even true. Because he could hear George telling the boy to watch where he walking. He heard other boys conversations. In fact it felt as if everything suddenly meant so much. The world seemed bigger, and Lem could feel the tiny breeze of air press against his palms. And those eyes. The eyes that looked back at him, they were such a cool grey. A grey of storms, or the sky minutes before the sun rose.
"Sorry" the shorter boy said. The boy despite being told off by George held his head high.
"George, it's alright. He didn't mean it." Lem kept eye contact with the boy. "What's your name?"
"John Fitzgerald Kennedy. And you?"
"Kirk LeMoyne Billings, it's a pleasure." Lem stuck out his hand, and when he felt John's firm grip his pulse stuttered.
With that the John walked away, and Lem turned to George.
"Lem, why'd you go easy on him?"
"He's a Kennedy, George, don't be an idiot."
"What does that matter." George grumbled as they headed towards their seats amongst the third year students.
"Welcome back to Choate boys!" The headmaster started his speech. Lem rolled his eyes.
*********
Once the assembly was over, the sea of boys headed back to their dorms or the common rooms. But Lem tried to move through the crowd to find a specific person.
"Lem! Where are you going!?"
Lem ignored George, and followed the brown hair he'd been staring at since the beginning of the headmaster's speech. Once he found himself outside he turned in circles in search of John. He spotted him walking through a grove of trees with leaves falling down.
"Well if I were a poet, this view would be worthy of a poem." Lem mumbled as he ran after John
"JOHN!"
This caught the boy's attention, who turned around to face Lem."Is there something you needed?" John said with a expressionless face.
"Where are you from?"
"Massachusetts."
"Ah, do you miss home?"
"Haven't been here long enough to say."
"Fair enough. Well if you ever need anything I'm in room 304, so just come and ask."
"Thanks." something flashed in John's grey eyes. After a moment of silence Lem spoke up once again.
"Anyways, I'll see you around."
