CHAPTER TWENTY SIX
˖⋆࿐

Rory had been trying to figure out how she was going to confront Corpse about how she was feeling. She wasn't exactly sure what she was even going to say and it was driving her crazy. Ever since Rory had returned home from her road trip with Caroline to pick up Moose, she had barely slept as all she could think about was Corpse and the fact that she had serious feelings for him. Rory was struggling to find the courage to tell him how she felt which made the encounters they had together very awkward.

Since Rory had been back at the apartment, Corpse could tell there was something off with her. It was almost as if she was trying to avoid him and if Rory was being honest, she was. The only reason Rory was doing that was because she was trying to put off the inevitable conversation that the two of them were going to have to have. The same conversation Rory was both in desperate need of but also the conversation that she was dreading because of what the outcome may be.

To try and take her mind off of everything, Rory considered streaming to kill some time but decided against it as she thought of all the comments she'd get about Corpse. Instead, Rory decided to watch a movie to distract her from her overthinking. The movie that Rory decided on was one of her all time favourite comfort movies, 10 Things I Hate About You.

About twenty minutes into the movie, Rory heard a light knock at the door. She lightly called out to them and the door opened to reveal Corpse standing in the doorway. He smiled at the girl before his eyes flicked over to the picture showing on the screen.

"What are you watching?" Corpse asked, his eyes glued to the screen.

"10 Things I Hate About You!" Rory exclaimed, her face lighting up as she noticed Corpse step further into the room.

Corpse slowly nodded his head before looking back over at Rory. "I've never seen it," he told her which made Rory's face drop.

"What?!" Rory almost yelled as she sat up on her bed in surprise. "Are you serious?" This movie was a classic and she had seen it more times than she count so it shocked her to learn that Corpse had never seen it.

Corpse shrugged before letting out a low laugh at Rory's reaction. "I'm not really a movie kinda guy," he told her which only made Rory's eyes open wider.

"Well, I'm going to change that," she replied, patting the area of bed to her right, indicating for Corpse to come and sit next to her. Corpse didn't hesitate before walking over and resting on the bed beside her. Rory picked up the remote and started the movie from the beginning so that Corpse could get the full experience.

The two of them became engrossed in the movie which made Rory forget all about the things she had been stressing about before. They had both relaxed as they laid beside each other on Rory's bed, wrapped up in one of Rory's fluffy blankets. Rory's favourite part of the movie was coming up and she was excited to see how Corpse was going to react.

Rory and Corpse watched the screen as Kat stood up to read her poem to the class. Rory's eyes started to water and she began to mouth along to the poem.

"I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car, I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick, it even makes me rhyme. I hate the way you're always right, I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it when you're not around, and the fact that you didn't call. But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you, not even close... not even a little bit... not even at all."

Rory wiped the tear that had escaped her eye onto her blanket. She shifted her eyes away from the screen to look at Corpse to see if he had any reaction to the scene. However, as Rory turned her attention away from the screen to look at Corpse, she found that he was already looking at her. He had been watching her as the scene played out, his heart swelling as he saw how immersed she was in the movie.

Neither of them said anything, their noses practically pressed together as they held their eye contact. Rory could feel her heart racing as she noticed Corpse's eyes fluttered from hers to her lips. She thought maybe she had just imagined it, but when he did it again, Rory knew she hadn't. Corpse was laying there trying to build up the courage to kiss her, worried that she'd push him away and reject him. What he didn't know was that on the inside, Rory was begging him to take the leap.

They both lingered for a moment, neither of them making the first move which made Rory grow agitated. She decided to break the silence.

"I hate the way you make me feel," Rory whispered, her voice barely being heard over the sound of the TV but Corpse heard every word. She had never felt the way she did around Corpse and it was driving her crazy. She couldn't believe how easy and natural it was with him.

Corpse knew exactly what she meant because he felt the exact same way. He smiled at her and slowly lifted his hand, tucking a loose piece of hair behind Rory's ear. He leaned in closer, lips parting as he went to speak.

"I hate that you're not mine."
