High School.
They were the two words that flashed through my mind before I woke up with a start. It was indeed my first day at the superhero academy Sky High, and although I was eager to master my two powers, I was nervous about starting for obvious reasons.
Sighing, I got out of bed and quickly got changed, choosing to wear some navy skinny jeans, a lacy black top, and some black combat boots. I checked myself in the mirror before skilfully applying my eye-liner, mascara and pale lip gloss. I quickly raked a brush through my curls and I was basically done.
I quickly grabbed my bag from off the back of my chair and slung it over my shoulder before making my way out onto the landing.
I slowed down outside my twin brother, Will's room, and watched him sympathetically as he tried and failed miserably to lift the smallest amount of weight on his lifters.
But before he could see me and tell me off for pitying him , I continued to the stairs and walked down and into the kitchen.
Mum was already plating up eggs and bacon as I dumped my bag near the table, and I grabbed the glasses of orange juice to put them on the table as well.
"Morning Mum," I greeted, before taking my place at the little table.
"Morning sweetie," she beamed, putting down a plate for Will.
When Dad came in, I eavesdropped on their conversation as I stabbed my eggs mercilessly before shoving them into my mouth.
"... I think we're in line to win that Sales trip to Hawaii!" Mum squealed excitedly.
Then Dad started talking about the last time they were there and then started getting all flirty.
"Ewwww get a room!" I protested, mouth still full of egg as I nearly threw it up at the sight of my parents kissing in the kitchen.
Mum just rolled her eyes at me, while Dad went to go and fetch Will.
Mum and I listened as Dad yelled Will from downstairs, but as he ascended the staircase to get Will, I could hear thumps and thuds coming from Will's room.
I knew exactly what he was doing, like twin instinct- he was putting more weights on for Dad so he looked stronger.
I shook my head, looking back down at my eggs, but suddenly hearing a sharp tapping on the window.
I grinned as Layla waved at me, and motioned for her to come in.
"Oh good morning, Layla!" Mum gushed.
"Good morning Mrs Stronghold," Layla replied, beaming.
"Would you like any breakfast this morning? I've got eggs, bacon," Mum tried.
"No thanks; remember how my Mum can talk to animals? Apparently they don't like being eaten," she said matter-of-factly, and I choked on my bacon, having not needed to know about my breakfast's opinion on me eating it.
"Juice?" Mum tried, trying to change the subject as she shoved mine towards me in an effort to stop my choking.
"Sure," Layla smiled.
Then Will came down as my coughing fit ceased, and I rolled my eyes as Layla's own eyes glazed over. She was so hopelessly in love with my brother it was ridiculous, but being a boy, he was too stupid to realise it.
"Hey Layla," he greeted, smiling, "Rose you okay? I thought I heard you coughing from upstairs..."
"I'm fine," I replied, although my voice was hoarse and scratchy from choking on my bacon.
