Not much happened at school after that; we just clowned about in the gym after Power Placement, and then received our schedules for classes tomorrow, before heading out to the bus again.
"I'm really bummed that I'm not in your classes!" I complained to Layla; "Why couldn't I have been smart and refused to showcase my power like you, and then all of us would be in the same class, but noooooo!" I ranted to myself.
She laughed lightly, before placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder.
"Rosie, you'll do great in Heroes Class; you were never meant to be a sidekick," she told me.
I shrugged, still not happy, and then we met up with Will at the bus.
"How ya doin'?" I asked mockingly, and he rolled his eyes.
"Nothing broken, but I may never get my powers," he replied dejectedly.
I shut up at that, hesitantly wandering over to my twin.
I'd never been too good at comforting people, so they knew when I was trying.
I punched him lightly in the arm, and he looked at me; "You'll get them soon Will. You're a third generation hero so you'll get them at some point. You'll just be.... God what's the word?" I wondered.
"A late bloomer?" he and Layla supplied.
"Yeah!" I exclaimed, a smile stretching across my face; "A late bloomer! You'll get them eventually... so don't go getting all heartbroken on me, because I don't think I could handle it," I joked (yet utterly serious), punching him lightly again.
He rolled his eyes at me again, pulling me into a one-armed hug.
"Oh yeah! For you," he told me, handing me a red lollipop.
"Cool!" I exclaimed, before I hesitated; "What did you do to it?" I asked accusingly, paranoia setting in.
"Nothing! I just don't like cherry," Will answered.
"Oh," I said, ripping the wrapper off the lollipop happily.
Both Layla and Will chuckled at me before they ushered me onto the bus.
We all took our places. Magenta and Ethan had moved further back to sit with us, but now I was sat with Ethan, Zach was with Magenta (because being his best friend, I knew for a fact that he was already crazy about her... crazier than usual anyway), and Will was sat with Layla (also a good thing for Layla, seeing as I was aware of her situation).
This time the safety bars came down immediately, and made me jump, but not as much as they had this morning.
I hadn't realised that I'd jumped, until I looked out of the window of the bus to find Warren Peace looking at the bus... more specifically, looking at me through the bus, and smirking. I assumed he was laughing at me so I couldn't help my glare.
Upon actually realising that I was glaring at him, once he'd come out of his own little world, Warren's scowl graced his face once more and I rolled my eyes before turning back to Layla and starting a conversation with her about what washing detergent Coach Boomer must use to keep his shorts so white...
Layla, Will and I had all got off the bus, and Will and I had just seen Layla up her drive and through her front door, politely declining her mother's request to join them for dinner, saying that Mum had already told us what we were having.
Walking up to our house, which wasn't all that far, I could tell that Will was nervous.
"Are you, erm, gonna tell them today or..." I asked, but Will shrugged.
"I don't know yet. I'm gonna go in with that as my aim, but it all depends on how they react.
I nodded, understanding his logic, and we arrived at the bottom of our drive.
"Here goes nothing," I supplied for him, putting my fist out for him.
He smiled, and bumped his fist against mine, and the two of us started up the drive.
"How are my favourite superheroes?!" Dad asked joyfully as he wandered in from the dining room.
Wow Dad... way to be discrete.
I nodded smiling, while Will's smile was evidently a little more forced.
"Dad... we need to talk," Will said reluctantly.
I was so proud of him as I smiled in his direction, nodding my head encouragingly.
"Okay," Dad looked slightly taken aback but played it off.
Then his face broke into a grin; "And I think I know just the place to do it!"
As he led Will of to another part of the house, Mum chucked Dad that eye thing that he'd plucked out of the robot this morning, which he had obviously tried to put on the dining table as decoration. I rolled my eyes.
"Whoa, the Secret Sanctum?" Will asked in awe, so I wasn't all that bothered about missing anything- Dad had shown me the Secret Sanctum as soon as I had gotten my powers.
I grabbed some glasses, and started to pour us all drinks for dinner.
"So how was school sweetheart?" Mum asked, smiling at me helping her.
"Good... yeah, good..." I mumbled.
"You don't seem to sure," she pressed, her eyes full of concern.
"I got into an argument already," I revealed, going to put the drinks on the table.
"Oh Rosie! Who with?" she asked, picking her drink up and taking a sip of it.
"Warren Peace."
She spat her drink out... all over me.
"Oh my God sweetie, I'm so sorry," she fussed, banging her drink own and running to get some towels to mop me up with.
I laughed; "It's fine," I said, letting her fuss over my shirt, knowing she'd get offended if I didn't.
"But Warren Peace? You know who his father is, right?" she asked.
"It may have been mentioned," I muttered, "So basically, it's kind of in my genetics to want to fall out with him?" I asked, hoping that I was getting myself out of trouble with this one.
"Absolutely not!" Mum cried, "Just because your father did something, doesn't mean that you have to act upon what he did," she reasoned.
"But Warren Peace clearly does," I protested in a mutter.
"But do you really want to sink to that boy's level?" Mum asked.
I sighed, knowing that she had won.
"You're right," I admitted with another sigh.
"I usually am," she sang, taking the towel away.
"Soooo.... any boys you like?" she asked, winking suggestively.
"Mum!" I protested, "It was my first day!"
"I always imagined you and that blonde boy getting together... what's his name?" she wondered.
"Zach?! Are you insane?! Glowchild isn't exactly my type, Mum," I declared, wanting to throw up at the thought. Zach was a nice guy and all, but it would just be waaaay too weird going out with him.
"Oh well," she sang airily, before she placed dinner on the table and asked me to fetch Will and Dad from the Sanctum.
"I'm sure you'll find someone soon," was the last thing I heard as I walked out.
My mother was so obsessed with my own, non-existent love life, it was unbelievable... and the worst part was, that she always got me thinking about who I could potentially like....
