On the bus, Magenta sat with Zach (who had been easy to spot because of his very luminous frilly dress shirt, and his very white blazer jacket), and I sat with Layla as Ethan sat behind us.
"Well I, for one, count myself very lucky to be attending homecoming with so many beautiful ladies," Zach said.
Layla and I awwed while Magenta rolled her eyes at him.
"So Will's not coming at all?" Ethan asked me.
I shook my head; "He said he'd think about it, but it's not looking promising," I admitted.
Everyone nodded and a silence fell upon us.
"Hey, come on guys, we're still gonna have an amazing time," Layla pressed, "There'll be music and dancing and food-"
"Better be good food though," I said.
"Yeah, I'm not settling for cheese cubes on sticks," Zach added, high fiving me.
Everyone chuckled as we continued on our last journey to Sky High of the term.
Getting off the bus, Ethan and Zach hopped off first, Zach stopping to offer a hand to each of us girls as we got off too. Magenta ignored it and stomped off the bus herself and Layla beamed at him as he helped her off the bus. When it came to helping me, I took Zach's hand, but as soon as my heel dug into the grassy turf, I swivelled and fell, ending up in Zach's trust fall position.
We all burst out laughing as Layla bent down to yank my heel out of the mud, me helplessly half-fallen in Zach's arms. As we laughed, I turned my head and my eyes landed on Warren, trying his best to keep a straight face. When I was finally free, I brushed myself off and walked over to him.
"It's fine, you can laugh," I said, throwing my hands up in the air.
He chuckled as he walked the remaining distance between us and I finally had the chance for a better look at him. I mean don't get me wrong, I loved the leather jacket, but damn did he look good in a suit.
"Hi," I smiled when he got to me.
"Hey... You look... really... nice."
"Nice? Is that the best you've got?" Magenta asked, unamused.
Warren shot her a glare and she rolled her eyes, starting to slowly walk away with the group.
"Thank you," I said, the two of us hanging back, "You clean up well too."
"No, Rosie, you look... stunning," he admitted, and I could feel a blush creeping onto my cheeks.
"Thanks Hothead," I winked, trying to play it off.
"Shall we?" he asked, offering me his hand.
"We shall," I smiled, linking my fingers through his as we walked up towards the school together.
Walking into the school hall, the music was blaring and all our classmates, Heroes and Sidekicks alike were dancing the night away. I spotted Layla at the drinks station, chatting to Mr Boy, and dragged Warren over.
"Hey," I chimed, and she turned around, beaming at us.
"Hey! So you did rent a tux," she said to Warren.
"It's my Dad's... He doesn't need it much in solitary," Warren replied, leaning forward to shout over the music.
In an attempt to ease the awkwardness, Layla whirled around; "Cheese cube?" she offered.
