Chapter X

The bullet shot past my face, tearing through the windshield. We sat stunned for a moment, the Liam reacted.

"Holy sh—!"

"Drive!" Chubs screeched.

Liam threw the car into forward, slamming his foot down all the way on the gas. We pitched forward sharply and a smacked my head against the window. This was what, the third time? It was thing now.

"I told you!" Chubs yelled. "I told you they were skip tracers!"

"Yes, you were right," Liam yelled right back. I rolled my eyes at their bickering. "But could you try to be useful, too?"

He jerked the car to the left just as the man let off another shot. It must have gone wide, because it never hit the car, not that I could tell. The man fired again, and this time it hit Betty's bumper. We felt the hit like a brick to the back; we all let out a sharp gasp.

Chubs, the drama queen he was, moaned and crossed himself.

Zu was slouched in her seat, knees pressed to her chest. Her hood hid her face but it couldn't mask the way her entire body shook. The Green put a hand on her back, holding her down. I made sure to keep them in my eyesight; I still didn't trust her.

Another bang sounded behind us, but this time it wasn't a gunshot.
"What in the..." Liam risked looking behind him. "Are you kidding me?"

A dark haired woman was shoved to the side by a tan SUV. A dark haired woman who looked an awful like...

"You've got to be joking," I groaned.

"It is her!" Chubs cried. "I told you! She found us!"

"Then who's the guy with the gun?" Liam yelled. "Her boyfriend?"

The man in the tan car turned back and shot out man next to Lady Jane. She didn't do much as look back at him.

The tan SUV rammed hard into the red pickup truck and Lady Jane skidded off onto the shoulder of the highway.

"That's one," Liam said.

"Please, just let me go," Green said. She grabbed Liam's shoulder which, in retrospect, wasn't the best idea since Liam was pushing 90 miles per hour. "I'll go back with them. No one has to get hurt."

"Yes!" Chubs said. "Pull over, let her out!"

"Both of you shut up!" Liam said, wildly swerving around. Suddenly, the SUV rammed into us, and not even the seatbelts could keep us from jerking forward.

Liam muttered something under his breath, which was lost in the onslaught of heavy rain. He rolled down the window and threw his hand out, as if to motion the SUV to move around us. Using his abilities.

"Do something!" Chubs shouted, holding on tightly to Zu, who was still shaking.

"I'm trying!" Liam said exasperatedly. "I can't concentrate!"

"Liam," The Green begged. "Please, just pull over. I won't let them do anything to you!"

She looked like she did not want to go back.

"Green!" Liam said suddenly. "Can you drive?"

My eyes widened with the realization of what Liam was doing. After all, he'd done it to me.

"No—" she started to say.

"Can you see better than Chubs?"

"Maybe, but—"
