Gabriel knew his memory was wiped shortly after the Great War. Almost anytime he tried to remember anything before or during the battle, he came up empty.

He never told anyone about this. He was an archangel now after all. He had responsibilities. He didn't have time to worry about some stupid memories.

So he had not even thought about them until Sandalphon brought up that during the revolution, he had felled 10 rebels. Then all the archangels except for Gabriel started bringing up things they did like it was a high school reunion. Gabriel on the other hand, felt a twang of guilt.

Stupid emotions.

Stupid past.

Stupid secrets.

He had kept silent till the topic of business came around again.

*

"Hello there! You two must be the new neighbors!"

Gabriel and Beelzebub turned around in unison and saw a person with light brown short curly hair. They were wearing an extravagant suit and skirt pairing even though the party was casual.

Noticing that the two people were now looking at xem, xe introduced himself. "My name is Lisen Abrams!" Xe bowed while saying, "It is a pleasure to meet both of you."

Gabriel awkwardly waved while Beelzebub just stood there.

Lisen laughed and asked, "What are your guys's names and pronouns?" Gabriel was still trying to process everything that had just occurred. So was Beelzebub but they were better at hiding it so ze answered with, "My pronouns are They/Ze and his pronouns are He/Him. What are yours?"

"Mine are He/It/Per/Kit!" Replied Lisen brightly. "Do y'all want to play some party games?" Per stood there with hopeful eyes. Beelzebub and Gabriel looked at each other then Beelzebub shrugged and said, "Why not?"

*

Aziraphale and Crowley had almost pushed the unwanted encounter out of their minds and were trying to enjoy the festivities, when both of them realized that the attention of the party-goers had shifted to a charades game with two people being much more caught up in the game than necessary.

Those two people were Gabriel and Beelzebub.

On Beelzebub's team there was Lisen, Teal, and Bean. On Gabriel's team there were some of Poppy's random relatives. The first team to reach 15 points would win.

It was tied 14/14 so far and Gabriel and Beelzebub were up to do the charade-ing.

Beelzebub's team won and ze made sure that Gabriel knew it. "I won! You lozzzt! How does it feel to actually be bad at zzomthing for once in your life Gabriel?" Beelzebub taunted. Gabriel retorted with "I'm not bad at charades! We were tied anyway so-" "Zzztop being zo zzztuborn and admit that I'm finally better that you at zzomething!" Beelzebub interrupted.

They continued like that for the rest of the party.

Crowley and Aziraphale, however, spent that time puzzling over why Beelzebub smiled so goddam much during that charades game. (Or to be more specific 13 smiles, 16 smirks, and 3 laughs.)

They never smiled. They made it a point to never smile at anything.

Crowley had repeated this fact 33 times in the span of 15 minutes.

"They are supposed to be emotionless! What the FUCK caused them not to be?" Crowley exclaimed for the 3rd time. Aziraphale was also perplexed but didn't panic because his mind was at work, trying to find a solution. Finally he had a almost barely plausible reason but it still fit.

"Mayyybe...both of them are trying to turn over a new leaf...?" Aziraphale suggested. Crowley looked at him in disbelief. "You really believe that? After what that asssshat Gabriel said to you?" "I mean, he did have a genuine point. If enough humans knew for certain about occult and ethereal beings, as well as everything that happened during the not-armageddon, who knows what could happen?" Aziraphale retorted.

Crowley thought back to that moment. He hadn't actually been paying attention to what Gabriel was actually saying. He just heard the condescending tone and all that anger that he had held back during Aziraphale's execution, just come right out.

Crowley was now even more confused with only one question in his mind. "Why?!" He asked Aziraphale.

Aziraphale just shrugged.

*

When Beelzebub and Gabriel got home, Beelzebub had stopped gloating (for now) and the conversation had switched to different phobias and why any human would be afraid of numbers (Arithmophobia) or why the fear of long words has such a long name (Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia)

Both of them went to sleep content with the day.

*

Crowley and Aziraphale noticed that people were starting to file out of the venue. They also noticed that Penny was walking towards them. Both braced for the inevitable awkwardness that the following conversation would have.

Penny came over and without skipping a beat said, "Hey you guys! Could we maybe forget about that little outburst I had and just continue things like normal?"

Crowley and Aziraphale looked at each other.

And nodded.

The night continued on.
